The Philadelphia Eagles moved up to draft Matt Barkley out of USC with a fourth round pick.

Chip Kelly has said that a mobile quarterback is not necessary to run his system.

"I believe that's an added bonus, not a precursor to what we do," said Kelly of a mobile quarterback.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders were also said to be interested in Barkley.

The NFL has converged on New York City for the first round of the 2013 draft. Without two sure-fire picks, as we saw last season with Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, there promises to be a lot of drama on Thursday night.

The Oakland Raiders traded the third overall pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the 12th and 42nd overall selections.

The Buffalo Bills traded the eighth and 71st overall pick to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for the 16th, 46th, 78th and 222nd overall selections.

The 49ers traded the No. 31 and No. 74 pick to the Cowboys for the No. 18 pick.

The Falcons traded the No. 30 pick and a sixth rounder to the Rams to acquire No. 22 and a seventh rounder in 2015.

The Vikings have acquired the No. 29 pick from the Patriots for the No. 52, No. 83, No. 102 and No. 229 selections.

Chip Kelly says he doesn't have a favorite in the race to become the Philadelphia Eagles' No. 1 quarterback.

Michael Vick and Nick Foles enter camp battling for the starting role.

"It's even," Kelly said. "They both took reps with the ones."

The Philadelphia Eagles have released quarterback Trent Edwards.

Edwards spent last season as the No. 3 and backup quarterback after sitting out the 2011 season.

The Eagles have four quarterbacks on their roster including Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Dennis Dixon and G.J. Kinne.

Nnamdi Asomugha has signed with the San Francisco 49ers after two disastrous season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

"I don't know that there's been a season where I didn't go in feeling like I had something to prove," Asomugha said. "I've had a chip on my shoulder every year that I've played.

"I think, obviously, it's bigger this year because of the adversity I went through in Philadelphia. But it's always been a part of my game, coming in and showing what I can do and now being able to be here and start fresh with that, it's a great opportunity for that."

Asomugha was once mentioned in the conversation with Darrelle Revis as the best cornerback in the NFL.

The New York Giants have signed defensive tackle Mike Patterson.

Patterson is the second former Philadelphia Eagles tackle to sign with the Giants, following in the footsteps of Cullen Jenkins.

Nick Foles is confident he can win the starting quarterback job with the Philadelphia Eagles and run coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense.

"Chip hasn't defined an offense. Up-tempo. I remember playing against him in college and it was up-tempo and I believe that whoever the quarterback is, you build the offense around that," Foles said.

"I feel like I can run anything. I love this team. I'm getting to know the coaches. I'm here to compete. This team's here to achieve the same goal, and that's win, and I'm just ready to compete."

According to a source, Geno Smith will visit with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday.

The former West Virginia quarterback met with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday.

The Eagles own the No. 4 pick in this month's NFL Draft.

The 49ers and veteran cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha have agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $3M, according to a league source. 

The deal does not feature any guaranteed money, a provision Asomugha himself sought, according to the source.

The source said Asomugha chose the 49ers over the Saints because he wants a chance to win a Super Bowl and was looking to return to Northern California.
