Chip Kelly To Call Plays For Eagles

Oct 31, 2014 11:42 AM

Chip Kelly will be the Philadelphia Ealges' play-caller this season.

Kelly will lean on offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who was previously offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams and head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

“It's one of the principles that makes (the offense) successful,” Shurmur said. “I think as time has gone on, you’ve seen that increase paced, high-tempo-type offense work its way into the NFL. It's a lot of what we do and I think it's very important.

“There are a lot of smart defensive coaches in this league and I'm sure they're having meetings on how to deal with it. But that is one of the benefits, depending on what the situation is or how it gets created. If you're playing with pace and you don't substitute then the defense will have a hard time, we hope, getting new people on the field. …You try not to react to the defense. We try to be the first to the ball. I think that's one principle of playing with pace, is being able to (dictate matchup through pace).”

Eagles' Depth Chart 'Written In Sand'

Oct 30, 2014 11:33 AM

Chip Kelly is opening up the Philadelphia Eagles' competition at quarterback to Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Matt Barkley as he is at most positions as they rebuild.

"Everybody gets a chance, and everybody has an opportunity to show us what their resume is, and your resume is what you put on tape every day. If somebody continues to make plays and someone doesn't make plays, that guy is going to move up and the other one's going to move down. Our depth chart is written in sand right now."
