Burress Wants To Join Eagles, Vick

Jul 3, 2014 4:31 PM

Plaxico Burress wants to play for the Eagles next season. The free agent told a Philadelphia radio station that he wants to sign with the Eagles and be reunited with his childhood friend, Michael Vick. "Hey, man, nothing else would make me happier," the wide receiver said. Burress said he would add a "unique dynamic" to the team's offense, joining a receiving corps that includes DeSean Jackson (a free agent) and Jeremy Maclin. He added that he talks once or twice a week with Vick, and he believes it would be a "special deal" to team up with him because of their friendship and similar background. "I really believe he can bring a championship to Philadelphia, and I'd love to be part of that," Burress said.

Agent Says Scott Hasn't Received Permission To Seek Trade

Oct 31, 2014 8:37 AM

The Jets have reportedly given Bart Scott and his agent permission to seek a trade from the team. The linebacker was "extremely frustrated" with his role this past season, according to agent Harold Lewis. Scott has played three seasons with New York. Lewis claimed he didn't request a trade and nor has he received permission to seek one. However, that could be a matter of semantics at this point. Scott's "ultimate goal" is to stay with the Jets, according to the agent, who added: "If we can't fix what's broken, there will be other opportunities."

Jets Give Bart Scott Permission To Seek Trade

Oct 31, 2014 1:28 PM

The Jets have given Bart Scott permission to seek a trade to another team. The linebacker has three years remaining on the six-year, $48 million contract he signed in 2009. Scott grew increasingly unhappy with his diminished playing time during New York's disappointing 8-8 season. He was routinely taken out on third downs due to the team's belief that he had difficulty in coverage.

Jets Plan To Work On 'Team-Building'

Jul 28, 2014 10:04 AM

There have been no official plans made, but the Jets plan to work on strengthening their bond as a team this offseason. "I have been talking to some guys about if we are going to do some team-building stuff, and there are guys brainstorming right now," guard Matt Slauson said. The Jets have already turned the page on a bitterly disappointing season. "Absolutely we are all focusing on next year now," said Slauson. "We're not worried about all of that drama that happened last year. We are focusing on next year and getting better and doing what we can to get in the Super Bowl."

Jets Keeping Cavanaugh As Quarterbacks Coach

Nov 11, 2014 2:55 AM

The Jets will retain Matt Cavanaugh as their quarterbacks coach even after Mark Sanchez regressed in 2011. After a curious delay, New York finally released its full coaching staff roster, including Karl Dunbar, whose hiring as defensive-line coach was reported two weeks ago. The decision to keep Cavanaugh came as a surprise, considering the overhaul on the offensive staff. Rex Ryan parted ways with his two most influential assistants, coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and line coach Bill Callahan.

Chad Pennington Likely To Retire

Sep 28, 2014 5:41 AM

Chad Pennington has appeared in just four games since the start of the 2009 season, throwing 76 passes with 52 of them hitting for completions and just one for a touchdown. He missed last season after hurting his left knee in a pickup basketball game and is fully healthy now. The Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reports that the 35-year-old two-time NFL Comeback Player of the Year isn't going to try for a third such reward and is leaning toward retirement. "It doesn't make sense for me to come back and try to play," Pennington said. "I know I can get healthy. I know I can be ready for training camp and do all those things. But can I take a hit? After four shoulder surgeries, that's a question that's hard to answer right now. That's something that's out of my control. I can control being strong enough, accurate enough, and smart enough. But I can't control not being able to take a hit in the wrong angle."

The Jets said wide receiver Santonio Holmes wasn't going anywhere. Now it's official. The Jets' financial commitment to Holmes practically doubled on Wednesday, meaning they're locked into him for $15.25M in guarantees. A $7.5M guarantee (most of his 2013 salary) was triggered by being on the roster after the second day of the waiver period, which was Tuesday. Holmes already was guaranteed his 2012 salary, $7.75 million, the second year of the five-year, $45 million contract he signed last summer.
