Cromartie Lists Himself No. 2 On Jets' WR Depth Chart
Antonio Cromartie has been involved in a limited number of snaps at wide receiver during Jets' training camp, but he is optimistic about his ability to contribute.
"I think I'd put myself as second," Cromartie said on ESPN's "First Take,". "I haven't really played it in the past four or five years, but I can put myself as the second just with raw ability and talent going out there, I think, me separating and being a more physical guy out there on the outside."
Chaz Schilens, Jeremy Kerley and Stephen Hill are the other Jets' receivers behind Santonio Holmes.
"Kerley is a more of a slot receiver, he's a slot guy," Cromartie said. "Stephen Hill is a younger guy that can get down the field. I think, for me, I can run every single route in the route tree. I'm not going to take anything away from my ability, so when you ask me that question, I'm going to say, yes, I believe I'm one of the best receivers on the football team, next to Santonio Holmes."
Jets Deal For Jeff Otah Voided
Jeff Otah failed his physical with the Jets, voiding the terms of his trade from the Panthers.
New York wanted Otah to compete for the starting job at right tackle.
"He did everything we asked for the past week and the terms of the trade weren't met so he's going back to Carolina," Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said.
Holmes Remains Upset For Being Made Jets' 2011 Scapegoat
Santonio Holmes remains upset he was benched in the Jets' 2011 season finale, claiming he was the "scapegoat" for the team's disappointing record.
"It was the end, it was playoffs on the line, and your best receiver doesn't get but two passes thrown his way in 60 minutes of football," Holmes told ESPN New York 98.7 FM.
"That's just hard to understand and to cope with when you want everything just as bad as everybody else does, and it just doesn't even happen. And nobody has the answers for it, but 'the scapegoat' is the answer, and that's what happened."
Revis Sits Out Because Of Hamstring, Not Contract
Darrelle Revis missed most of practice on Sunday with what he called "a little tightness" in his right hamstring.
His absence was not because of his desire for a new contract from the Jets.
"I knew you were going to ask that question," the cornerback told a reporter. "Come on, it has nothing to do with it. If I didn't want to be here, I would've held out."
Jets Fans Heckle Tebow During Drills
Tim Tebow was officially welcomed to New York by upset Jets fans during his first public drills of training camp on Saturday.
The quarterback was heckled by a few spectators during the team's first public practice, which drew 2,588 on a rainy morning.
"I thought it was some of the defensive guys," said Rex Ryan, referring to the wisecracks from the crowd. "Just kidding."
Keyshawn Talks About Leadership With Holmes
Santonio Holmes received a lesson in leadership Friday from Keyshawn Johnson.
The two wide receivers, from the New York's past and present, walked off the practice field together as they talked.
"It was a big brother-to-little brother talk," Holmes said.
"He was just teaching me to be cordial to everybody and to understand what gift I have to this football team and learning how to utilize it."
Ryan Offers No Hints About Tebow's Role
The Jets have opened training camp, but Rex Ryan has yet to discuss the role Tim Tebow will have on offense this season.
When asked about the reserve quarterback's role in Week 1 against the Bills, the usually talkative Ryan was cryptic.
"It's whatever you want it to be. That's the beauty of it," Ryan said.
"We brought this young man in, I know how difficult it is to have to prepare for the Wildcat, for those type of things. There's no question, I know how difficult it is. And the fact that we can trot out Tim to run 25 Wildcat snaps, or zero, or 50, or one, or whatever it is, is gonna make you have to prepare for him. So why would I ever give that up? And I'm not going to. Everybody will find out what his role is against Buffalo that particular day."
Sanchez, Tebow Arrive At Training Camp
The first day of Jets training camp Thursday was anything but peaceful, according to an ESPN.com report.
With 82 members of the media at the entrance of a college dorm, Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow arrived about 45 minutes apart (Sanchez was first) to start what figures to be the most compelling quarterback situation in the league.

Jets Acquire Jeff Otah From Panthers
The Jets have acquired Jeff Otah from the Panthers in an effort to solidify the right tackle position.
New York sent a conditional draft pick to Carolina, who made Otah a first-round pick in 2008. A source said the pick is a seventh-round selection.
Otah and incumbent right tackle Wayne Hunter will compete for the starting job, according to league sources.
