Rex Ryan: I Used To Dislike Sparano

Oct 31, 2014 3:42 PM

The Jets hired Tony Sparano, a man Rex Ryan used to not be too fond of, as their new offense coordinator. After a rough Jets loss to the Dolphins, who Sparano used to coach, in 2009 Ryan turned to a team employee and said, "I don't like this dude." "I was pissed," Ryan recalled. "I'm like, 'I'm going to kick that dude's ass next time.'" It was the last time a Sparano-led Dolphins team would beat the Jets, but Sparano had already earned Ryan's respect. "After he became available," Ryan said, "I'm like, 'Oh, hell, yeah ... that's my guy.'"

Bart Scott Feels Better After Meeting With Ryan

Jun 10, 2014 11:39 AM

Bart Scott had a meeting with Jets head coach Rex Ryan this offseason to discuss some lingering issues from last year. Scott was upset that he came off the field in some packages because of matchup issues. "It's cool, it was just something Rex and I needed to be on the same page about," Scott said. "(I wanted him) to know where I stood and what the plans were and once we hashed that out it was fine. I've never been afraid to speak my mind or bet on myself so that was a conversation that needed to be had, we had it and we moved on. "Hopefully I can be back to what I've always done, which never included leaving the field a lot," he said. "So, hopefully I'll get more opportunities."

Tebow Works At Quarterback, Special Teams

Oct 31, 2014 7:21 AM

Tim Tebow wrapped up his first week of activities with the Jets on Thursday as a special teams player. New York's backup quarterback, in the first OTA practice open to the media, was used as the "up" back on the punt team. Tebow's role will evolve, but so far he's the No. 2 quarterback/personal protector. "It's definitely something I'm trying to get used to," he said. "It's unique, but it's fun. (I'm) having a good time out there."

GM: Jets Haven't Been Approached About 'Hard Knocks'

Aug 9, 2014 6:44 AM

The New York Daily News has reported that the Jets have already turned down an appearance on HBO's "Hard Knocks." However, general manager Mike Tannenbaum says the Jets haven't been approached by HBO about being the subject of the reality show. "(I)t has not been offered to us, so right now we're on the sidelines, and we don't know who's going to be asked at the end of the day," Tannenbaum told Pro Football Talk. "But what I can say, Mike (Florio of PFT), is NFL Films, HBO Sports -- they all did a great job. It was a great experience for us, it was good for our organization. I think those organizations are real pros and it was a good experience for us."
