April 2012 - New York Jets Wiretap
Tebow Unsure If He'll Start Again
Tim Tebow told 1050 ESPN Radio on Friday that he's "not sure" if he'll ever be a starting quarterback again, and that thought doesn't even concern him right now.
"I don't know what the future holds, but I know who holds my future," Tebow said, referring to his strong Christian faith.
Holmes Doesn't Care Who Throws Ball, He Just Wants It
Santonio Holmes has been relatively quiet this offseason, but he has an opinion about New York's quarterback situation.
The Jets acquired Tim Tebow last week, to play behind starter Mark Sanchez.
"He didn't really care (about the trade)," a player training with Holmes said. "'Tone' just wants the ball. He said it's all on Sanchez this time. If Sanchez trips (up), then he'll be on the bench going, 'Tebow! Tebow!' like everyone else.'"
Revis Calls Belichick A 'Jerk'
Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis called Bill Belichick a “jerk” during an appearance on ESPN.
Revis was playing a word association game on “SportsCenter” on Wednesday with Rob Gronkowski when he was asked to say what he thinks when he hears Bill Belichick’s name.
“Jerk,” Revis said, before explaining, “Just some of the comments he says about the Jets.”
Coughlin Isn't Concerned With Attention Jets Have Received
The Giants are coming off a Super Bowl win over the Patriots, but most of New York is buzzing over the arrival of Tim Tebow as the newest member of the Jets.
Tom Coughlin, who is in line for a contract extension with the Giants, says that fans in New York remember championships above all else.
His team has won two of the last five Super Bowls.
"You know who won the Super Bowl, you know who the world champions are," Coughlin said. "Whether we're on the front page every day or not, it's not that important. New Yorkers know."
Nike Sues Reebok Over Tebow Jerseys
Nike went to court Wednesday to prove that Reebok is not a lock to promote Jets quarterback Tim Tebow.
Nike Inc. claimed in a lawsuit in U.S. District Court that Reebok International Ltd. has used Tebow's name on Jets-related apparel without permission since it was announced last week that Tebow was traded from the Broncos to New York.
The Tebow trade occurred just before Nike replaces Reebok on Sunday as the supplier of NFL team uniforms.
Ryan Expects Slimmer Scott Back With Jets
Rex Ryan expects to have Bart Scott on his roster this coming season.
The linebacker's future with the Jets appeared uncertain after the 2011 season.
"Yeah, I certainly think so," Ryan said when asked if Scott would return. "I know everything has been reported, but I can say this: I've had great discussions with Bart."
Scott was "extremely frustrated" with his diminished role last season, his agent, Harold Lewis, said last month.
The Jets have shopped Scott in trade talks, according to sources, but his $4.2 million salary is guaranteed -- scaring off potential suitors.
Ryan said Scott has dropped weight in the offseason, adding that he expects the weight loss to help Scott improve his speed.
"Bart's got his weight down," Ryan said. "He felt he probably got a little too heavy last year. We were going to use him as a blitzer and he got his weight up. He's going to drop that weight back down a little. I think sometimes the longer you go in your career, sometimes it's better to lose a little weight ... Bart is still a ferocious hitter. He brings that kind of intimidating presence to us."
Jets Didn't Consult With Sanchez About Tebow
Rex Ryan made it clear on Tuesday that Mark Sanchez was not consulted before the Jets acquired Tim Tebow via trade last week.
"Mark's job is to play quarterback, it's not to be the general manager," the coach. "That's what it is. Our decisions are based on the team."
Ryan spent nearly an hour defending the trade, explaining why they made the move and insisting the Sanchez-Tebow dynamic will work fine.
"I will say this: I feel better about our quarterback situation now than I ever have since I've been here," Ryan added.
Tomlinson Still Open To Playing
It appears as though LaDainian Tomlinson is still open to playing football.
Tomlinson, 33, played last season for the Jets, but he is a free agent.
The running back is waiting to see if any teams show interest in him, but indicated that even if no one does, he is fine with whatever his future may hold.
"Obviously I'm a free agent and I'm still open to playing," he said. "I am just taking my time through this free agency stuff just continuing to explore my options and make a decision here on my future depending on my options, so I'm excited about the future either way it goes if I continue to play or if I don't."
Sanchez 'Not Worried' About Job
Mark Sanchez is glad to welcome Tim Tebow to New York, but isn't at all worried about losing his spot atop the quarterback depth chart.
"We're adding another player and were not replacing anybody," Sanchez said on a conference call.
"I mean, he's here to help us and I'm confident in my abilities. I know the team feels the same way about me. They have belief in me. ... I'm not worried about losing my spot."
Tebow Believes He, Sanchez Can Work Together
Tim Tebow was introduced to the New York media on Monday as the newest member of the Jets.
He immediately downplayed a controversy with incumbent quarterback Mark Sanchez.
"I think we'll have a great relationship and, hopefully, we'll thrive together," he said.
Tebow added that the pair spoke over the phone last week.
