49ers' Running Game, Defense Dominates Jets 34-0 (+26.4 TC, +25 TRC)

Oct 9, 2014 4:09 PM

The San Francisco 49ers recorded a dominating 34-0 victory at the New York Jets to improve to 3-1.

The 49ers had a +26.4 advantage in The Trench Counter, averaging nearly twice as many yards per play, 17 more first downs while winning the turnover battle 4-0. San Francisco had a +25 edge in Total Rushes/Completions.

Alex Smith went 12-for-21 for 143 yards, while backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick scored the first touchdown of the game on a seven-yard run.

Carlos Rogers returned a Santonio Holmes fumble for a touchdown to begin the fourth quarter, extending the 49ers' lead to 24-0 and put the game seemingly out of reach.

Jets Will Use Joe McKnight At Cornerback

Jul 7, 2014 7:53 AM

The New York Jets will use Joe McKnight at cornerback as they deal with the season-ending injury to Darrelle Revis.

McKnight practiced at cornerback ahead of Week 2, but didn't see any game action.

"We'll do that this week with Joe McKnight," Rex Ryan said. "He'll have a role on offense, but we're also teaching him how to play corner. Not quite a full-time capacity, but he's going to be over there a ton in the meetings and everything else."

McKnight played defensive back in high school before USC's Pete Carroll's made him a full-time running back.

"He's a guy that we saw on scout team when he was a rookie," Ryan said. "He has the necessary skills to be able to play corner. He's got the speed, the size, the athleticism, the ball skills. Everything you look for in a corner. So, I don't think there's any reason not to think that Joe McKnight couldn't be a corner."

Jets Plan To Use Tim Tebow More Against Dolphins

Oct 23, 2014 4:05 PM

The New York Jets plan to feature Tim Tebow more against the Dolphins in Week 3.

“Just like with Joe McKnight only had the one snap [against Pittsburgh], will [Tebow] play a bigger role this week? Probably,” Ryan said. “But again, things go into it. Matchups are a consideration. A lot of different things go into things.”

The Jets have had modest success in the limited use of the Tebow formation.

“I think going in, like I say, there could be more opportunities [for Tebow] down the road. There could be less. But that’s it,” Ryan said. “I’m happy he’s here. I can tell you that much. I think as we’ve said from day one, this guy’s a good football player. We’re not going in saying he has to get x-amount of snaps. That’s not what we do.”

Jets Compare Tebow Option To Having Two Types Of Running Back

Oct 26, 2014 4:25 AM

Even though just two weeks of the NFL season are complete, the New York Jets have seemingly done a good job in incorporating Tim Tebow onto the team in terms of acceptance from Mark Sanchez and other players.

"In the beginning, guys were like, 'This is weird, why would we bring him?' And then once the roles were defined as to what was going on, it's fine," guard Brandon Moore said. "I mean, I think the Wildcat and the roles he's going to be used in can be very helpful. I look at it as bringing in another running back that can bring something different, like if you bring in a running back that's a Reggie Bush type. The element he brings to our offense, I look at him like that."
