Clay Matthews Filing Grievance Against Rams

Apr 30, 2020 8:50 AM

Clay Matthews is filing a grievance against the Los Angeles Rams over $2 million in unpaid guarantees, according to sources.

Matthews and Todd Gurley, who were released by the team in March, have publicly vented their frustrations over non-payments.

The linebacker's two-year deal with the Rams included $5.5 million in guarantees, and he is still owed a $2 million roster bonus.

A source involved said the Rams could argue that language in the contracts of Gurley and Matthews allows a short-term deferral of payment for tax purposes.

Rams Still Plan On Paying Todd Gurley, Clay Matthews

Apr 16, 2020 3:32 PM

The Los Angeles Rams still plan on paying the money due to Todd Gurley and Clay Matthews following their release by the team.

"They're definitely owed money. That money is guaranteed, we're going to pay them," Les Snead told NFL Network on Wednesday. "There's some language in the contract of exactly when you pay them and that's what we're adhering by. What I do know is both Clay and Todd earned that money and they're going to get that money."

On April 8, Gurley wrote in a tweet: "@RamsNFL past due. Send me money ASAP" and Matthews retweeted him, adding: "You and me both TG! Better get some interest with that too."

The Rams still owed a $7.55 million roster bonus to Gurley, though they don't have to him $2.5 million of that due to offsets. Matthews is due a fully guaranteed $2 million roster bonus, but his contract also has offsetting language for $2 million.

Apr 16, 2020 3:28 PM

Jared Goff has acknowledged that there's been internal discussion about his contract with the Los Angeles Rams being restructured while adding he's open to it.

"I think that's a better question for Kevin [Demoff] and my agent," Goff said. "I think there's been some stuff about being able to clear some cap space. And if so, I'm all for it. I don't see why not. It doesn't change anything for me and helps the team out."

The quarterback signed a massive deal worth $134 million over four years with $110 million guaranteed last year.

Rams Plan To Spread The Ball Around At Running Back

Apr 7, 2020 8:44 AM

The Los Angeles Rams have moved on from Todd Gurley and plan to spread the ball around at running back going forward.

They won't devote a large portion of their cap at the position.

"What we do want to be is a team that utilizes more than one workhorse moving the ball, with different skill sets," Les Snead said.

The general manager acknowledged that Gurley's salary cap number was simply too high to justify keeping him.

"Ultimately, our vision is to keep us contending not only in the short term, but the long term. Releasing Todd, we felt, was the best thing for the Rams," he said.

The Rams currently have three running backs on the roster -- Malcolm Brown, Darrell Henderson and John Kelly.
