Travis Kelce Sees Boost In Popularity After Taylor Swift Appearance

Sep 26, 2023 8:42 AM

Travis Kelce had seven catches for 69 yards and a touchdown on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, but something entirely unrelated to football has boosted his popularity tremendously.

Taylor Swift took in the game as a guest of the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, sitting next to his mother in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium.

Since the singer's appearance, Kelce has seen a 400% increase in merchandise sales, a huge boost in social media reach and his jersey is now among the Top 5 most popular in the NFL.

Sep 25, 2023 12:23 AM

Patrick Mahomes became the fastest NFL quarterback to reach 25,000 career passing yards, and he got there on Sunday in a fitting manner.

The Chiefs signal-caller went over the milestone on one of his longest passes of the day, a 37-yard throw to Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the third quarter of Kansas City's 41-10 win over the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Restructure Deal With $210.6M Through 2026

Sep 18, 2023 3:05 PM

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a restructured contract where he will receive $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026 with all those seasons being guaranteed.

With escalators, Mahomes could reach $218.1 million by the end of 2026.

The Chiefs and Mahoes will revisit the agreement after the 2026 season.

Mahomes had recently dropped to eighth in average annual salary among quarterbacks with nine more seasons remaining on the contract he signed in 2020. This deal now puts him back near the top.

Chiefs Unlikely To Use Franchise Tag On Chris Jones In 2024

Sep 17, 2023 3:22 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs and Chris Jones did not agree to a provision to prevent the team from using their franchise tag on him in 2024, but the reality of their cap situation makes that scenario unlikely.

If the Chiefs were to tag Jones after the season, the price tag would be expected to be about $32 million.

The Chiefs would have to release or restructure the contracts of too many players to be able to tag Jones.

The defensive tackle added that he hopes sides can strike a multi-year deal in 2024.

"I'm glad to be back this year…I'm hoping we can get something worked out after the year for the long term," Jones said. "I've reiterated multiple times I plan to play for the Kansas City Chiefs for the long haul of my career. That doesn't change because of the past situation."

Chiefs Optimistic Travis Kelce Will Return In Week 2

Sep 8, 2023 8:44 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs played without Travis Kelce on Thursday night, but they are optimistic the tight end will play in Week 2.

Kelce suffered a knee injury during practice earlier in the week. Reports indicate he is dealing with a bone bruise, which isn't expected to keep him out long.

He tested out his knee Thursday morning, but had no power and struggled in a pool, according to NBC's Melissa Stark.

With the Chiefs playing on Thursday night, Kelce will have 10 days to prepare for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Patrick Mahomes Has 'Trust' In Receivers Despite Drops

Sep 8, 2023 8:40 AM

Patrick Mahomes says he still has "trust" in his wide receivers despite a number of costly drops in the Kansas City Chiefs' season-opening loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Chiefs expected the offense to look differently without Travis Kelce (knee).

"It's going to have an impact on the game," Mahomes said of Kelce's absence. "But other guys have to step up and they're going to have to step up in moments. Sure, there'll be times [after Kelce returns] that he gets doubled and so we're just going to have to rely on these other guys that are young and talented to step up and make plays, and I believe that they will."

Kadarius Toney was expected to be Kansas City's top target with Kelce sidelined, but he dropped three passes and finished the game with one catch for one yard.

"I have trust in [Toney]," Mahomes said. "He missed a lot of training camp, and obviously he wanted to play and fought [during] rehab hard so he could play and stuff's not always going to go your way.

"Obviously he would've wanted to catch a few of those in the game, but I've trusted he's going to be that guy that I go to in those crucial moments, and he's going to make the catch and win us some games like he did last year. So we're going to continue to work him in, get him more and more reps, and I'm sure that those drops will kind of disappear."
