Ja'Marr Chase Adds 'Fire To The Fuel' With Shots At Chiefs

Dec 29, 2023 9:30 AM

Ja'Marr Chase has plenty to say ahead of this weekend's showdown between the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs.

Chase started out saying nothing stood out about the Chiefs' secondary. Then he said Kansas City didn't have a lockdown cornerback like Jalen Ramsey.

The wide receiver added that safety Bryan Cook, who is on injured reserve, is not comparable to the Atlanta Falcons' Jessie Bates III, who spent the first five years of his career with the Bengals.

When it was expressed that the comments could be perceived as shots at the Chiefs, Chase seemed to embrace it.

"I'm just adding fire to the fuel," Chase said. "They're going to take this, run with it. Hope they put it in their locker."

In January 2022, the Bengals defeated the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game to advance to the team's first Super Bowl in more than three decades. One year later, Kansas City won the rematch on a field goal as time expired.

Patrick Mahomes: I Still Believe We Can Go Do What We Want To Do

Dec 26, 2023 11:18 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled this season as defending Super Bowls champs as they lost on Monday 20-14 to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite the issues facing the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes remains optimistic of their chances.

"I still believe that we can go do what we want to do," Mahomes said.

"It's just how can we correct it as quickly as possible," he said. "We're two games left that are guaranteed and then you talk about the playoffs and so all you can do is move on to that next day, get better then and try to be better the next time we step on the field."

Chiefs Rule Out Kadarius Toney, Jerick McKinnon Due To Injuries

Dec 23, 2023 2:49 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs ruled wide receiver Kadarius Toney and running back Jerick McKinnon out of their Christmas Day game against the Las Vegas Raiders because of injuries. Neither player practiced during the week.

The Chiefs listed Toney as having a strained hip on their injury report. He is their second-leading wide receiver with 27 catches but his season has been more notable for costly mistakes.

Bill Belichick: Underinflated Balls Were Used Against Chiefs

Dec 22, 2023 4:55 PM

Bill Belichick believes the kicking footballs used during the first half of Sunday's loss by the New England Patriots against the Kansas City Chiefs were "under inflated by 2, 2 1/2 pounds."

"We don't have anything to do with it. Were we aware of it? Yeah, definitely," Belichick said. "As I understand it, they were all the same. I don't know what the explanation is. It was the same for both teams.

"You'd have to talk to the league about what happened on that. That part of it, they control all that."

Per league rules, the kicking footballs are supposed to be between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch, with officials in charge of ensuring that is the case as they are in possession of all footballs leading up to the game.

Belichick said missed field goals by Kansas City's Harrison Butker (39 yards) and New England's Chad Ryland (41 yards) in the first half, and two kickoffs that almost went out of bounds, were plays in which "you could see" how the underinflated footballs affected the game.

Patrick Mahomes Regrets Outburst, Interaction With Josh Allen

Dec 12, 2023 10:20 AM

Given time to reflect, Patrick Mahomes regrets his actions after the Kansas City Chiefs' loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon.

Mahomes was upset Sunday after an offside call on Kadarius Toney negated what would have been the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes remaining.

The quarterback yelled at the officials about the call as the Bills wound down the clock after taking the ball back.

"Obviously you don't want to react that way, I mean, I care, man. I love it -- I love this game, and I love my teammates. I want to go out there and put everything on the line to win, but obviously you can't do that, can't be that way toward officials or really anybody in life," Mahomes said Monday in an interview with 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City.

He added that "more than anything, I regretted the way I acted toward Josh [Allen] after the game, because he had nothing to do with it."

A WROC-TV camera caught Mahomes telling Allen: "Wildest f---ing call I've ever seen. Offensive offsides on that play, man. F---ing terrible."

Mahomes said Monday, "I was still hot and emotional, but you can't do that. It's not a great example for kids watching the game. I was more upset about that than me on the sidelines."

Chiefs Won't Give Up On Kadarius Toney Despite Mistake

Dec 12, 2023 12:43 AM

Andy Reid said the Kansas City Chiefs won't be giving up on wide receiver Kadarius Toney, even after he made a costly mistake late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills.

"The thing I know is he makes plays,'' the Chiefs' coach said Monday of Toney. "He makes plays when he has the ball in his hand and that's important. He's a young guy. He doesn't have ... a ton of experience, but I think he's getting better every week.

"I don't see that as being a negative. I look at the things that he produced on, too.''

Sean McDermott 'Super Proud' Of Bills

Dec 11, 2023 12:50 AM

After the Buffalo Bills' 20-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, quarterback Josh Allen was asked what this game meant -- a necessary step that keeps the playoffs within reach -- following a week in which the team faced issues off the field with remarks coach Sean McDermott made in 2019 involving 9/11 becoming public, and as an investigation into the alleged assault of a pregnant woman by pass-rusher Von Miller continues.

Allen, speaking for the first time since McDermott's comments were published, shared his support for the only head coach he has played under as a professional.

"This week wasn't easy. It wasn't easy for Coach McDermott," Allen said. "You can question a lot of things about coaching style, you can question a lot of things about my decision-making, you can question a lot of things about this team, but to question his character and who he is as a man ... he's one of the better humans on this planet, with how he carries himself, and we saw it for what it is."

Chiefs Criticize Offside Penalty Call

Dec 11, 2023 12:43 AM

For a second straight week, a frustrated Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were left "talking about the refs," this time after an offside penalty call on wide receiver Kadarius Toney negated what would have been an epic finish versus the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

The penalty wiped out a 49-yard touchdown that featured a cross-field lateral from tight end Travis Kelce to Toney. The play would have given the Chiefs the lead with just more than a minute remaining.

Instead, they wound up turning the ball over on downs after the penalty and lost 20-17 for their second straight defeat.

NFL Officiating Crew Under Scrutiny Over Missed Calls

Dec 10, 2023 12:43 AM

The officiating crew that did not call a blatant and potentially game-deciding pass interference penalty during Sunday night's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers game missed a similar call one week earlier in Atlanta on a play that harkened back to one of the most controversial non-calls in NFL history.

Jordan Love Had Kansas City Game 'Circled For A Long Time'

Dec 4, 2023 9:02 AM

Jordan Love faced the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night for the first time since Nov. 7, 2021 -- his first NFL start -- and led the Green Bay Packers to a 27-19 victory.

Love made that start two years ago because Aaron Rodgers was sidelined with COVID-19. He crumbled against the blitz as the Chiefs won 13-7 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Steve Spagnuolo tried a similar strategy Sunday and Love masterfully sidestepped it, showing just how far he has come 12 games into his first season as Green Bay's full-time starting quarterback.

"Yeah, it's huge," said Love, who finished 25-of-36 passing for 267 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. "For me personally, obviously I've had this game circled for a long time. My first start, obviously, didn't play how I wanted to the first game. So to be able to see these guys again and get the victory is huge. It's just a great team win tonight. Everybody just balled out, so it was an awesome win."
