Travis Kelce Estimates 50% to 80% Of NFL Players Use Cannabis

Jun 29, 2023 9:34 AM

Travis Kelce told Vanity Fair that he estimates around 50 percent to 80 percent of NFL players use cannabis.

The tight end says that under the more lenient policy the NFL implemented in 2021, it's easy for players to use marijuana in the offseason and stop before testing begins.

"If you just stop in the middle of July, you're fine," he said. "A lot of guys stop a week before and they still pass because everybody's working out in the heat and sweating their tail off. Nobody's really getting hit for it anymore."

Kelce tested positive for marijuana and was suspended for the entire 2010 season during his time at the University of Cincinnati.

Travis Kelce Fine Being 'Underpaid' Says, 'I Love Winning'

Jun 29, 2023 9:13 AM

Travis Kelce admits he thinks about how much more money he could be making if he "pressed the gas" on his contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, but ultimately, winning is more important to him.

"My managers and agents love to tell me how underpaid I am," the tight end said in a wide-ranging interview with Vanity Fair.

Kelce saw Tyreek Hill leave the Chiefs over contract demands last offseason. The wide receiver then signed a four-year, $120 million extension, including $72.2 million guaranteed with the Miami Dolphins.

"When I saw Tyreek go and get 30 [million] a year, in the back of my head, I was like, man, that's two to three times what I'm making right now," Kelce told Vanity Fair. "I'm like, the free market looks like fun until you go somewhere, and you don't win. I love winning. I love the situation I'm in."

The Chiefs have won two of the past four Super Bowls.

Kelce, 33, is scheduled to make a base salary of $11.25 million this season, ranked 52nd among NFL players.

"You see how much more money you could be making and, yeah, it hits you in the gut a little bit. It makes you think you're being taken advantage of," Kelce said. "I don't know if I really pressed the gas if I would get what I'm quote-unquote worth. But I know I enjoy coming to that building every single day."

Brandon Graham: Chiefs 'Blessed' To Face Eagles On Slippery Turf

Jun 28, 2023 9:43 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles featured a historic defensive line last season, a group that flirted with the all-time record for most sacks as a team.

They lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, and failed to record a single sack against Patrick Mahomes.

Several months later, Brandon Graham says the turf at State Farm Stadium helped neutralize Philadelphia's pass rush.

"You need that traction to be able to get off the block and we were slipping a lot," Graham said. "I don't make excuses. I just know that that's what was being talked about, us trying to get out of our own head a little bit, too.

... "I'm telling you that O-line, they got blessed, I'll say that."

Travis Kelce To Ja'Marr Chase: Don't Disrespect Patrick Mahomes

Jun 23, 2023 10:07 AM

Travis Kelce understands why Ja'Marr Chase is sticking up for Joe Burrow, but the Kansas City Chiefs tight end says the wide receiver should know better than to disrespect Patrick Mahomes.

Kelce weighed in on Chase's "Pat who?" comment this week on his "New Heights" podcast.

"It is what it is, dog. Who doesn't love some good locker room banter, man?" Kelce said. "Shoutout to Ja'Marr Chase for holding it down for his QB, but don't you ever disrespect Pat Mahomes, now. If you wanna talk your s---, talk your s---, pimp. Just better back it up."

The back-and-forth between the rivals started after Joe Burrow said this month that Mahomes was the best quarterback in the NFL and there's no argument to make until someone can knock him off.

Chase understandably has Burrow, instead, at the top of the list and when told of his teammate's opinion, made his "Pat who?" comment, which might have been made in a tongue-in-cheek manner but hasn't been taken that way by the Chiefs.

"I thought it was a little bold," Kelce said. "[Mahomes] is a two-time league MVP, two-time Super Bowl MVP. To say 'Pat who?' is like I don't know."

Chiefs Feel 'Good' About Contract Talks With Chris Jones

Jun 19, 2023 8:38 AM

Chris Jones is entering the final year of his contract, but the Kansas City Chiefs feel good about talks with the All-Pro about a reworked deal.

"We have great communication and there's a lot of time before camp," general manager Brett Veach said. "[I] feel good about where we're going to be with Chris. We'll get to celebrate tonight and have a good time, break tomorrow, and I'm sure we'll have great dialogue from now to the start of training camp and look forward to Chris being here not just for next year, but for a long time."

Jones had a career-high 15.5 sacks last season and has said he wants to remain with the franchise.

Chiefs Celebrate Super Bowl Title With 613-Diamond Rings

Jun 16, 2023 8:47 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their Super Bowl LVII victory with a private ring ceremony on Thursday night.

"That's what you work for, was to win the Super Bowl and get those rings," Mahomes said. "They last a lifetime. To be able to see them, I know they've done a great job with them. I got to help out a little bit with the creating process.

"I got to see the process of it and gave some ideas and stuff like that. So they did a great job and they mean [a lot] even with whatever they look like. You get to have them forever and they mean the world. It's cool to be able to have two of them now."

Each Super Bowl ring contains 613 diamonds -- 609 round diamonds and four marquise diamonds -- and 35 rubies totaling 16.1 carats.

Norma Hunt, Matriarch Of Chiefs, Dies At 85

Jun 5, 2023 11:39 AM

Norma Hunt, who as the wife of late Kansas City Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt attended all 57 Super Bowl games, has died, according to a statement released by the team.

She was 85 years old.

"Kind, generous and unfailingly positive, mom was one of a kind," the Hunts said in their statement. "Her joy and zeal for life were infectious. She loved caring for others, and she always had an encouraging word. She was a loyal friend, the consummate hostess and she had a rare ability to make everyone she encountered feel valued and at ease.

"Mom was steadfastly devoted to her family and fiercely passionate about her family's sports teams. She was by our father Lamar's side every step of the way -- from the merger of the AFL and the NFL to the formation of Major League Soccer, World Championship Tennis, the North American Soccer League, and their founding investment in the Chicago Bulls. She was the only person we knew who rivaled his love of sports. The two of them found such joy together, whether at home, or in stadium stands around the world."
