Patrick Mahomes Wants To Own Team After Playing Days

Oct 19, 2023 9:01 AM

Already with an impressive portfolio, Patrick Mahomes says he wants to own an NFL team after he's done playing.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is a part-owner of the Kansas City Royals (MLB), Sporting Kansas City (MLS), Kansas City Current (NWSL), and a pickleball team in Miami.

Mahomes is going to continue to invest in franchises until he gets the one he ultimately wants.

"Not until I own an NFL team. If I can get there, then I might settle down," Mahomes said. "But they make it pretty tough to get to that spot."

Despite Win, Chiefs Still See 'Room To Improve'

Oct 13, 2023 8:53 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, improving to 5-1 on the season.

However, much of the talk after the 19-8 victory was about finding ways to improve.

The Chiefs scored one touchdown in five trips inside the Denver 20 and needed four field goals from Harrison Butker to pull out the victory.

"Luckily for us, our defense is playing great so we can go through these growing pains and try to get better and better," Patrick Mahomes said. "The talent is there. You can see it in spurts.

"I thought we did a great job of staying patient, getting the ball down the field, but in this league, three points and seven points is just such a big difference, and so I think if we found a way to execute in the red zone and score those touchdowns, we'd come away feeling great. Since we didn't, we have a lot of room to improve, and so that's just something that we've got to continue to work on. It's just putting a full game together. Let's put a full game together and see what we can do."

Al Michaels Says TNF Made Point To Limit Taylor Swift Coverage

Oct 13, 2023 8:48 AM

Taylor Swift was in attendance for Thursday night's game between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, sitting next to Travis Kelce's mother, Donna, in a suite.

The NFL has featured a lot of coverage on the relationship between Swift and Kelce, but Al Michaels said ahead of the game that Amazon planned to show the singer-songwriter less than we've come to expect.

"What we're gonna do [for the game], everything in moderation," Michaels said. "Our crew talked about it [Thursday] morning. You can't make a sideshow the show. The vast majority of the audience are tuning in to watch a football game. There are people, I don't know how many, it could be a sizable number, but it's certainly not a majority, that if you trained the camera on her all night long, they'd be satisfied with that. This is not what we're doing to do."

He admitted there would inevitably be a couple of shots of Swift at the game, but Michaels said anything more than that would be "farcical."

Patrick Mahomes Becomes Youngest QB To Beat All 31 Other Teams

Oct 9, 2023 8:26 AM

With Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings, Patrick Mahomes has now beaten all 31 teams in the NFL, except for his Kansas City Chiefs.

The only other time the Chiefs and Vikings played in the quarterback's career, Mahomes was injured and Matt Moore led Kansas City to a victory.

At age 28, Mahomes is the youngest quarterback to accomplish that feat.

He is one of five quarterbacks who have beaten every team except the one they played on for most or all of their careers -- joining Alex Smith also beat every team but the Chiefs, Ben Roethlisberger beat every team but the Steelers, Russell Wilson has beaten every team but the Seahawks and Aaron Rodgers has beaten every team but the Packers.

Report: Travis Kelce Suffered Low Ankle Sprain

Oct 9, 2023 8:13 AM

Travis Kelce suffered a non-contact, low-ankle sprain on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, according to a report.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end slipped on the turf at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Kelce left the game in the second quarter, but returned for the Chiefs' second drive of the third quarter. He proceeded to catch five passes, including a touchdown.

CBS Sports' Tracy Wolfson reported that Kelce received X-rays at halftime and that the Chiefs were leaving it up to him to return to the game.

NFL Defends Focus On Swift-Kelce 'Pop Cultural Moment'

Oct 5, 2023 8:09 AM

The NFL is defending its recent coverage of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce amid backlash from fans and even the tight end himself, who said the league is "overdoing it" with its attention toward the duo's rumored romance.

Swift has attended the Chiefs' past two games, including their 23-20 win over the New York Jets on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium, which was the most watched Sunday show since the Super Bowl with an average of 27 million viewers.

The broadcast featured ads for the forthcoming concert film "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" and on several occasions cut to Swift, who cheered on the Chiefs enthusiastically from her luxury box seats.

The NFL has played along, particularly on its social media accounts.

"We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what's happening in and around our games, as well as culturally," the NFL wrote in a statement on Wednesday. "The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we've leaned into in real time, as it's an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we've seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport."

Kelce opened up on his thoughts about the coverage by the NFL and its broadcasts on the latest episode of his podcast "New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce," saying he thinks it needs to "calm down."

Vikings CB Plans To Taunt Travis Kelce About Taylor Swift Relationship

Oct 3, 2023 8:47 AM

Taylor Swift has attended the last two Kansas City Chiefs games in support of tight end Travis Kelce.

The Minnesota Vikings will host the Chiefs at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday and it remains to be seen if Swift will be in attendance.

That would be "cool," Vikings cornerback Byron Murphy, Jr. said.

"Oh man, the social media is going crazy," Murphy said when asked about the league's embrace of the Swift-Kelce storyline. "And I'm not hating against it. That's the world we're living in. Is she going to come to this game? We're locked in, but that would be something. I've been watching her since I was a kid. That would be cool, for sure.

"Not for him, because we're going to try to get our hands on him in front of her."

Added Murphy, who said he has never been to one of Swift's concerts: "I'm going to say something to him to get him going."

Aaron Rodgers Rejoins Jets, Will Attend Sunday's Home Game

Oct 1, 2023 1:10 AM

Injured New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers rejoined the team Saturday, attended the evening meeting, and will be present for Sunday night's home game against the Kansas City Chiefs at MetLife Stadium, according to multiple reports.

Rodgers, who tore an Achilles tendon in Week 1, underwent surgery Sept. 13 and had been rehabbing in the Los Angeles area, near his home. He alerted the team about a week ago that he might return for the game, but he first needed medical clearance before he could fly.
