Aaron Rodgers' Agent Gave Packers Ultimatum Early In 2021 Offseason

May 31, 2023 10:36 PM

Early during the 2021 offseason, Aaron Rodgers' longtime agent David Dunn called Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy and requested he fire Brian Gutekunst or trade Aaron Rodgers. Murphy did neither, but news broke close to the draft that Rodgers wanted a trade but the Packers kept him.

“I was under contract, for one, so definitely wasn’t gonna hold out and let them fine me,” Rodgers said. “There were a lot of things that I was hoping were gonna change, and they made some promises about things they were gonna try and do better. But I just felt like coming back, have a good season, move forward and just not focus on some of those things that I really felt strongly about but that may or may not actually ever get done.”

Rodgers went on to win his second straight MVP award and the Packers had the No. 1 seed in the NFC, but they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round.

In March 2022, Rodgers signed a three-year, $150 million extension to keep him in Green Bay.

Packers OC: Entire Playbook On Table With Jordan Love

May 17, 2023 9:14 AM

The Green Bay Packers will open up the offensive playbook for Jordan Love in his first season as the starting quarterback.

The transition from Aaron Rodgers to Love might allow Matt LaFleur and his staff to implement the offense they wanted to all along.

"It might yeah, it might," offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said. "I think it might. And it's not just because of not having Aaron Rodgers. It might just be these other pieces that we've added as well. So, again, it's OTAs right now so we're just going to kind of see how it all fits and once we figure out kind of how we're going to attack defenses, then we'll roll from there. But I think it might."

Love isn't likely to have the freedom to change plays at the line of scrimmage that Rodgers had.

"Obviously he doesn't have the playing experience that Aaron had, but from a playbook standpoint, I think pretty much all of it's on the table," Stenavich said. "He's been around for three years and has really attacked it. Even last year, you could see him come into his own, felt a lot more comfortable, so this year he's really hitting it on all cylinders so I'm really excited to see what he's going to bring."

Jordan Love 'Grateful' For Time Behind Aaron Rodgers

May 11, 2023 8:09 AM

Jordan Love says he's grateful for the time he had behind Aaron Rodgers.

"We talked after the trade," Love said of Rodgers. "Kind of just, 'Wish you the best going forward.' He wished me the best and [is] always there for me if I need anything, if I have any questions or anything. I'm always just grateful to be around him and for the time I had with him, to be able to learn and be behind him. It's very grateful for me."

Love had three seasons to learn from Rodgers, who was traded to the New York Jets this offseason. The Packers signed Love to a three-year, $150 million contract in March.

"I'll admit, I think the hardest time was when he re-signed the contract last year," Love said.

"It was kinda like, 'OK, well, where do we go from here? What do I do?' And I think I sat back, thought to myself and just came back with the approach, like, 'Let's just go ball out any opportunity I get. I'm gonna get preseason and who knows what happens after that, so just grow and try and become the best version of myself, and I can't really control what happens after that, so let it play out.'"

Packers Give Aaron Rodgers' Locker To Rookie QB

May 10, 2023 8:30 AM

The Green Bay Packers have given Aaron Rodgers' old locker to rookie quarterback Sean Clifford.

Clifford was a fifth-round pick out of Penn State.

"Obviously I understand who was in here before and I respect everything about that," he said.

Clifford made it clear that he doesn't feel any extra pressure just because he's taking over Rodgers' locker.

"I came in and I found my name on the plate and I sat down," the rookie QB said. "I'm doing whatever it takes to win games here. I'm very appreciative of the opportunity. Green Bay has a guy who's going to come in and give them their all, and I can promise that. I'm just trying to create my own legacy now and continue to just to get better."
