Ravens Confident DeShon Elliott Can Replace Earl Thomas

Aug 28, 2020 8:24 AM

The Baltimore Ravens have moved on from Earl Thomas and have thrust third-year safety DeShon Elliott into the starting lineup.

"I respect Earl and his game, but I'm not worried about Earl; I'm worried about me and what I can bring to this team for my teammates," Elliott said. "I know I'm going to make my plays, [and] I know we're going to strive to be great. So, whatever I have to do to do that, that's what's going to happen. Whether it's eight picks, 10 picks or no picks, whatever I need to do to help my team be great and win every game we need to win to accomplish our end goal, that's all I care about."

Elliott was a sixth-round pick in 2018 out of Texas. His first two seasons were marred by injuries.

NFL's 32 Teams Collectively Worth $99 Billion

Aug 26, 2020 1:29 PM

The average NFL franchise is worth more than $3 billion, according to data compiled by Sportico.

The Dallas Cowboys rank first in the NFL at $6.43 billion with the Cincinnati Bengals ranking last at $2.12 billion.

The fair-market value of the NFL's 32 franchises collectively is $99 billion when considering team-related businesses and real estate held by owners.

The teams’ $15.83 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year, which represents the 2019 season, was greater than that of 298 companies on the Fortune 500. That averages to about $495 million per team.

In 2019, the Cowboys generated an estimated $871 million in revenue, which was 81% greater than the average of the other 31 teams.

Lamar Jackson Dealing With Groin Injury

Aug 24, 2020 10:37 AM

Lamar Jackson missed practice with the Baltimore Ravens this weekend with a "soft tissue thing" in his groin.

"We've got a couple guys — Marcus Peters is another one and Justice Hill is another one — who have some soft tissue things. Just rather be safe with those guys right now and give those things a chance to get better and be right," John Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh didn't share any timetable for Jackson's return to the practice field.

Ravens Release Earl Thomas, Will Try To Void Contract

Aug 23, 2020 11:39 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have released Earl Thomas two days after an on-field altercation with teammate Chuck Clark.

The Ravens are expected to try to void his $10 million guaranteed salary this season. It is expected the safety will file a grievance.

Thomas was sent home Friday and has not returned to the Ravens' facility since his on-field altercation with Clark. This was the second fiery exchange with a teammate for Thomas, who confronted nose tackle Brandon Williams after a loss to Cleveland 11 months ago.

The Ravens wanted to split from Thomas so badly that they are willing to take a major financial hit and move forward without a proven replacement for him. They will take a $15 million salary-cap hit for releasing him, unless they are able to void his $10 million guaranteed salary.

Dez Bryant Leaves Tryout With Ravens Without Deal

Aug 20, 2020 5:03 PM

Dez Bryant departed his tryout with the Baltimore Ravens without a contract.

While the Ravens could sign Bryant in the future, nothing is imminent currently.

Bryant hasn't played in the NFL since December 2017.

The Ravens could have brought in Bryant to keep him on a short list of options if injuries hit the wide receiver position.

Dez Bryant To Work Out For Ravens

Aug 17, 2020 4:05 PM

Dez Bryant will work out for the Baltimore Ravens this week.

Bryant hasn't played in an NFL game since the end of the 2017 season, when he was released by the Cowboys in part because of an $18 million base salary and declining production.

The Ravens offered a multiyear contract to Bryant in the 2018 offseason, but he declined while seeking a bigger, one-year deal.

Bryant had been working out at a facility close to the Cowboys' headquarters in Frisco, Texas, as he attempts to return after two years away from game action because of a torn Achilles.
