Harbaugh Apologizes For Actions Against Chiefs

Oct 29, 2014 12:59 AM

Ravens coach John Harbaugh says he wasn't trying to embarrass the Chiefs on Friday night in his team's 31-13 preseason victory. Kansas City coach Todd Haley accused Harbaugh of running up the score in the final moments. The Ravens scored with five seconds to play on a 1-yard touchdown run by rookie running back Anthony Allen. "I want to apologize to the Chiefs if they feel like we were not doing the right thing at the end of the game," Harbaugh said. "The mindset was this is preseason. If this had been regular season, we would have been on a knee. The idea in that situation is to give these young guys who work hard and who are trying to make a football team to play the whole 60 minutes and give them a chance to show what they could do. "I know that's debatable. I know there is a point of view both ways. I understand that. But I just felt like that was the right thing to do for our players, to give them a chance to play the game out and see what they could do."

Bears GM Cleared Air With John Harbaugh

Oct 19, 2014 5:38 PM

Bears general manager Jerry Angelo says he and Ravens coach John Harbaugh have "cleared the air" after Harbaugh made critical comments of the Chicago front office for a botched draft day trade between the teams. "I was surprised that he said that publicly," Angelo said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I knew they were upset, and I would be upset too. I did call John after [hearing his comments], and we cleared the air. There was no intent on our part. "Whatever facts that he thought were facts I said were misrepresented. I explained some things to him from our side. We'd be more than willing ... I said check the phone logs, do what you want, talk to whoever you want. What I said initially is what it was. I think John understands that. We left it wishing each other well. I think it's in the past and it's behind us." The Bears and Ravens agreed to a draft-day trade that involved the teams swapping first-round picks, with the Bears giving up a fourth-round selection to move up from the 29th slot to the 26th, where the Ravens were sitting. With about 2½ minutes remaining for the teams to consummate the trade officially with the league, the Ravens had followed the proper protocol, but the Bears had not.

Evans To Wear Mason's No. 85 With Ravens

Oct 29, 2014 12:58 AM

New Ravens wide receiver Lee Evans, who wore No. 83 with the Bills, will sport the No. 85 of former Baltimore pass-catcher Derrick Mason this season. Evans ran plays with the first team, caught several passes from Joe Flacco and finished Saturday afternoon with a broad smile on his face. "I was very excited to come here and be a part of something special," Evans said. "Obviously, this has been a very historic franchise, a winning organization. I just want to come in and do my part, and do anything I can do to help them win." Evans has enjoyed just one winning season since Buffalo drafted him in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft.

Lions Deny Tampering With Ricky Williams

May 17, 2014 10:19 PM

The Lions claim a conversation offensive coordinator Scott Linehan had with then Dolphins running back Ricky Williams after a game last year did not constitute tampering. "I talked to Scott about it, and the conversation that Scott had -- I'm very confident that there was nothing more to it than just well-wishing after a game," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "There's coaches after every single game that see players that they coached before and wish them well and things like that. I think it can end there. "It's pretty ridiculous that somebody would even consider that -- I know it's just a reporter, but somebody would even consider that anything more than just well-wishing. I don't know how many times I've had players that I've played in the past come up and ask how the family is and say, 'Great, hey, good luck in the future, hope our paths cross again sometime.' Something like that. It's just life in the NFL." Williams told the Florida radio station WQAM-AM in an interview Monday that Linehan "came up to me after the (the Lions beat the Dolphins last year), and he said that if you need a home, we'd love to have you on our team." Linehan said in a released statement that the conversation didn’t happen the way Williams remembered.
