Ravens Want Pick For Trade Mess With Bears

Oct 31, 2014 3:46 PM

The Ravens want draft pick compensation from the Bears for the failed trade that forced the team to skip the 26th selection, according to the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune. The NFL confirmed Friday that it's looking into the situation, which happened Thursday night after the Ravens told the league they had agreed to send the 26th pick to the Bears in exchange for the 29th selection and a fourth-rounder (127th overall). Chicago didn't confirm the trade to the league in time, forcing Baltimore to fall back in the draft order.

Bears Take Blame For Failed Trade With Ravens

Oct 31, 2014 6:31 AM

The Bears failed to complete a trade with the Ravens late in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft on Thursday night, leading Baltimore to pass on their selection. The Chiefs jumped ahead of the Ravens and selected wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin at No. 26. Baltimore then jumped back in the draft and took Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith at No. 27. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said he called the NFL with two and a half minutes left on the clock to consummate the trade and never got confirmation from the league. "There was an agreement made between the [Bears] team and I," Newsome said. "I got on the phone with the NFL but the [Bears] never got confirmation from the league. At that point I was asked by the league to make the pick." The Bears would have traded their fourth-round pick, 127th overall, to the Ravens in the deal that would have seen the teams swap first-rounders. "We had a disconnect and there might be something said about it because of not communicating with the league and proper protocol; that was my fault," Chicago general manager Jerry Angelo said. "I called Baltimore and apologized to Baltimore and told them it was our fault. They did everything according to the rules, and we thought we were following everything, and we just ran out of time. It was a glitch on our part and that glitch obviously was under my reign."

Zbikowski Fails Drug Test After Fight

Sep 30, 2014 11:36 PM

Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski was suspended Tuesday for flunking a drug test after fighting in Oklahoma on Saturday. The Chicago Sun-Times first reported the story. Zbikowski was among five fighters suspended 45 days by the Chickasaw Nation Boxing Commission, pending a second negative drug test. The drug in question is THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. "We're appealing it," Zbikowski's manager Mike Joyce said. "After the fight, all the fighters tested were positive. They had you pee in a cup and put a strip of something in there. I've never seen results where you get them the day of the fight. It was like a home pregnancy test or something."

Mason: Goodell's Stance On HGH Is A 'Joke'

Jul 7, 2014 11:42 PM

Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason isn't happy with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's stance on HGH testing. Goodell insists that the league will demand that a blood test for HGH is a part of the next collective bargaining agreement. "He needs to stop crying about blood tests and HGH. He needs to try to get a deal done, that's what he needs to do," Mason said during his weekly appearance on "The Norris & Davis Show" on 105.7 FM in Baltimore. "He's been on this crusade about HGH, but he needs to be on a crusade about getting these owners together and trying to work out a deal. To me, he's a joke, because every time I look, he's talking about performance enhancements instead of talking about trying to figure out a way to make sure football is played in August." When asked if he would call Goodell a "joke" to his face, Mason replied: "Yeah. He's a grown man and I'm a grown man."

Flacco, Heap To Work Out In Arizona

Oct 2, 2014 12:54 AM

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco plans to work out with tight end Todd Heap and other players later this month in Arizona. "We get together later this month," Flacco said. "We're going to go out to Arizona and hang out with Todd and there's a facility out there." Flacco said he's only recently started throwing again after focusing on running and lifting weights after the season ended. "This is the time when you want to make sure you keep your arm in shape but not overwork yourself or get hurt or worn out before the season comes," he said. "I'm really just starting to get back into it, and and I'm feeling good."

Flacco Sees No Reason For Delayed Extension

Apr 23, 2014 1:21 AM

Joe Flacco doesn't see why the Ravens need to wait until after the 2011 season to extend his contract. "I think I've established myself," Flacco told The Baltimore Sun. "If you're not confident with who I am, I'm not sure what a year is going to make. "Ideally for me, I would like to start talks this year. Next year, I feel like they would have to throw something in front of me that's going to be pretty legit in order for me to not play out my fifth year. If you don't sign me this year, you're making me play a whole year of my contract with no security. If you want to sign me after next year, what's playing six more months." Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said last month that he would "anticipate" an extension for Flacco getting done in time for the 2012 season.
