Saquon Barkley On Week 1 Status: 'We'll See'

Jul 20, 2021 9:00 AM

Saquon Barkley's right knee is feeling "pretty good" after ACL surgery last year, but there is still uncertainty how much Barkley will do at training camp and whether he will be ready for Week 1.

Barkley said that is not a conversation he has had with the New York Giants. Quarterbacks and injured and rehabbing players are scheduled to report to camp Thursday.

"I don't know. We'll see," the running back said when asked if he expected to be a full go at the start of camp.

How about Week 1?

"I don't know. We'll see," he repeated. "Taking it day by day. Just listening to my body. Whenever I'm able to get out there, just make sure I'm 110 percent. Not just for ... my well-being, but just so I go out there and compete at a high level and show the world who Saquon is."

Saquon Barkley Vague On Status As Training Camp Nears

Jul 9, 2021 9:51 AM

Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show, Saquon Barkley dodged multiple questions about when exactly he might be ready to play in 2021.

The New York Giants running back tore his ACL early last season.

Barkley relied on the tried and true motto of "taking it day by day" and sprinkling in a dash of "trying to get one percent better every single day."

Eisen tried to dig deeper, asking Barkley if he might end up on the physically unable to perform list.

"I think I know better than that," he said. "I've been in the NFL for a little bit now. I think I learned a thing or two."
