Saints Place Michael Thomas On PUP List

Aug 31, 2021 1:55 PM

The New Orleans Saints have placed Michael Thomas on the physically unable to perform list and he'll miss at least the first six weeks of the season.

Thomas has been sidelined since he underwent ankle surgery in June.

The late timing of Thomas' surgery was a point of consternation with the team. Sean Payton said at the beginning of training camp, "Obviously we would've liked that to happen earlier than later. And quite honestly, it should've."

Thomas finished with 40 catches for 438 yards in seven regular-season games last season and didn't catch his first touchdown pass until the playoffs.

The Green Bay Packers have placed David Bakhtiari on the physically unable to perform list and will miss the first six weeks of the season.

Bakhtiari, who tore the ACL in his left knee in practice on Dec. 31, would be first eligible to play on Oct. 24 against the Washington Football Team.

Bakhtiari signed a four-year, $103.5 million contract extension last November that made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history at the time.

Saquon Barkley To Increase Drills With Eye On Week 1

Aug 25, 2021 9:42 AM

Saquon Barkley is expected to participate more in drills during this week's joint practice with the New England Patriots as he continues to impress with his physical progression from a torn ACL in his right knee.

However, Barkley will not be at Wednesday's joint practice as he attends to a personal matter, according to sources.

The New York Giants running back will rejoin the team Thursday, and the plan is to get him going potentially in live drills, perhaps with some slight limitations.

Barkley's time away from the team isn't expected to set him back, and there remains a possibility that he'll be ready to play in the Giants' Sept. 12 opener against the Denver Broncos.

"He keeps advancing in his rehab," Joe Judge said. "His foot is tapping every day, wanting to do more and more, and physically he keeps progressing and showing us he can do more and more."

Travis Etienne will miss the entire 2021 season after being placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

Etienne will undergo surgery for a Lisfranc injury.

The Jaguars drafted Etienne 25th overall in the 2021 draft. Urban Meyer said he planned on having Etienne line up at receiver in addition to running back, similar to the way he used Percy Harvin at Florida.

Etienne left Clemson as the ACC's all-time leading rusher (4,752 yards).

Aug 22, 2021 11:39 PM

Frank Reich says the Indianapolis Colts will welcome Carson Wentz, Quenton Nelson and Ryan Kelly back to practice on a limited basis this week.

Wentz has been out since injuring his left foot on the second day of training camp on July 29. Nelson has been out since Aug. 2 after injuring his right foot. Kelly has been out with a left elbow injury since July 30.

The team gave a five- to 12-week time frame on Wentz's and Nelson's recoveries. If both return this week, it will be just three weeks removed from their respective surgeries.
