Sean McDermott 'Super Proud' Of Bills

Dec 11, 2023 12:50 AM

After the Buffalo Bills' 20-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, quarterback Josh Allen was asked what this game meant -- a necessary step that keeps the playoffs within reach -- following a week in which the team faced issues off the field with remarks coach Sean McDermott made in 2019 involving 9/11 becoming public, and as an investigation into the alleged assault of a pregnant woman by pass-rusher Von Miller continues.

Allen, speaking for the first time since McDermott's comments were published, shared his support for the only head coach he has played under as a professional.

"This week wasn't easy. It wasn't easy for Coach McDermott," Allen said. "You can question a lot of things about coaching style, you can question a lot of things about my decision-making, you can question a lot of things about this team, but to question his character and who he is as a man ... he's one of the better humans on this planet, with how he carries himself, and we saw it for what it is."

Chiefs Criticize Offside Penalty Call

Dec 11, 2023 12:43 AM

For a second straight week, a frustrated Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were left "talking about the refs," this time after an offside penalty call on wide receiver Kadarius Toney negated what would have been an epic finish versus the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

The penalty wiped out a 49-yard touchdown that featured a cross-field lateral from tight end Travis Kelce to Toney. The play would have given the Chiefs the lead with just more than a minute remaining.

Instead, they wound up turning the ball over on downs after the penalty and lost 20-17 for their second straight defeat.

Sean McDermott: Apologized For 9/11 Remarks In 2019

Dec 8, 2023 9:37 AM

Sean McDermott said Thursday that he regretted mentioning 9/11 in a 2019 training camp talk with the Buffalo Bills and "immediately apologized" to his players.

McDermott emphasized he made the comments "to discuss the importance of communication and being on the same page with the team."

The coach said he "regretted mentioning 9/11 in my message that day and I immediately apologized to the team. Not only was 9/11 a horrific event in our country's history, but a day that I lost a good family friend."

As first reported by Go Long, McDermott told players in a speech to come together and used the terrorists on 9/11 as an example, asking players questions about how the attacks were executed and referencing the hijackers getting on the same page.

Asked why he mentioned 9/11 and whether hijackers were specifically referenced as an example of a group coming together, McDermott said, "It was mentioning 9/11 in the context of the team meeting. The goal of the team meeting was the importance of communication and being on the same page as a team."
