Shanahan Gets Bell Rung At Redskins OTAs

Sep 11, 2014 10:52 AM

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan got involved in the action during the team's workouts on Monday. Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports the collision, which involved receiver Pierre Garcon and cornerback Brandyn Thompson, kept the 59-year-old on the ground for several minutes. Though Shanahan remained on the practice field, his scheduled session with the media after practice was canceled. "He showed some toughness. Got up. Stuck it out. So that's a (trademark) of our team," rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III said. "It was pretty scary to see two guys running full speed smack dab into your coach. We're glad he got up, glad he was fine. And hopefully he's fine tomorrow 'cause usually hits like that don't kick in until the next day."

QB Coach: Redskins Couldn't Pass On Cousins

Jul 25, 2014 1:46 AM

The Redskins couldn't lose by taking Kirk Cousins in the fourth round of the NFL Draft this past weekend, according to quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur. "I thought Kirk would've been gone long before the fourth round," LaFleur told 106.7 The Fan. "When he's sitting there, and you have a high grade on him, it's like you can't lose with that pick, in my opinion." Selecting the former Michigan State signal-caller was a head-scratcher for some who believe the team is inviting a quarterback controversy if second-overall pick Robert Griffin III struggles out of the gate. "This is a nasty game where sometimes things happen, and you have to go with somebody else, so we want to make sure we're secure at that position," LaFleur said. "I personally think it'll be a great thing," the coach added. "You've got two guys coming in here and they'll get the chance to grow together and learn together and study together."
