Washington Releases Dwayne Haskins

Dec 28, 2020 1:44 PM

The Washington Football Team has released Dwayne Haskins.

"This afternoon I met with Dwayne and informed him that we would be releasing him. I told him that I believe it benefits both parties that we go our separate ways. We want to thank Dwayne for his contributions these last two seasons and wish him well moving forward," Washington coach Ron Rivera said in a statement.

Haskins was the 15th overall pick in 2019 and was benched in the fourth quarter after two interceptions and a lost fumble.

Haskins started for two straight weeks despite being fined and losing his captain role for violating COVID-19 protocols.

The Washington Football Team is aware of pictures on social media showing Dwayne Haskins not wearing a mask while attending an event with strippers.

The incident will be handled internally.

Washington could either fine or suspend Haskins based on the NFL's COVID-19 protocols.

Alex Smith: We Can Go On The Road And Play With Anybody

Dec 8, 2020 8:50 AM

Alex Smith believes the Washington Football Team made a significant statement with Monday afternoon's win over the previously undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.

"We're so young that you have to have wins like this to learn from them and know you can do it," Smith said. "You don't get that confidence without having done it. So for us, I think a big win that we'll take with us, knowing we can go on the road and play with anybody."

Washington is 5-7, but could make the playoffs as the winner of the NFC East. They are currently tied with the New York Giants for the division lead.
