Chase Young Thinks He May Still Be Growing

Apr 28, 2020 11:16 AM

Chase Young, the No. 2 overall pick in last week's NFL Draft, isn't sure if he has stopped growing.

The 6-foot-5 defensive end was selected by the Washington Redskins.

Young said his dad, Greg Young, grew from 6-7 his sophomore year in college to 6-10 a year or so after he left.

"It's a possibility I could grow late," Young said. "A lot of people told me my growth plates, there's still some room. It won't affect my game. It's something I'll adapt to, staying flexible. If you're tall, you've got to be a lot more flexible. I'll be the same person whether I'm 6-7 or 6-1. Everything's cool."

49ers Acquire Trent Williams From Washington

Apr 26, 2020 11:14 AM

The San Francisco 49ers have acquired Trent Williams from Washington for a 2020 fifth round pick and a 2021 third round pick.

The 49ers moved to trade for Williams after Joe Staley decided to retire. The 49ers entered draft week hoping Staley would return.

Neither the 49ers or Williams are in a rush to sign an extension.

"I think the plan was to land him right now and then let the rest kind of work itself out," general manager John Lynch said. "I think it's always an advantage when you get someone in the building, on your roster. Now you've got a chance. We'll get a really good look at him. We'll see where the rest of our team is at, but right now we are just ecstatic that we were able to pull it off at a really opportune time.

"You're losing a great player like Joe at a very critical position, to be able to have everything line up that he was available right then and for us to be able to land him, I think very fortuitous for us, and we're very excited about that."

Falcons Trying To Move Up To Select Chase Young

Apr 22, 2020 11:08 PM

The Atlanta Falcons have been attempting to trade up in the draft to select Chase Young.

Washington owns the second overall pick and don't necessarily have a need for Young given their depth on the defensive line.

The Falcons moved up in the past to select Julio Jones.

Washington Chased Amari Cooper 'Up To The Very End'

Apr 8, 2020 3:05 PM

Washington badly wanted to sign Amari Cooper, who re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys in free agency.

"Amari was someone that we chased very hard all the way up to the very end," Ron Rivera said. "He decided to return to Dallas. We were in it and we were talking about the substantial money. But at the end of the day, he made a decision he felt was best for him and we respect it."

Cooper received $100 million over five years from Dallas.

"That's a tough one," Rivera said. "We would've loved to have him as part of what we're trying to do. We believe he would've been a great veteran presence in the room, especially for those young guys that played last year and had success with this football team. We would've felt good about having a veteran guy like that who's had success in this league as part of what you're trying to do."
