Antonio Gibson Getting More Work Than Expected In Washington

Aug 31, 2020 9:21 AM

Antonio Gibson is getting more work than he anticipated as the Washington Football Team prepares for the 2020 season.

Gibson played wide receiver at Memphis, but Washington has referred to the rookie as a running back.

"Definitely more than I expected coming in as a rookie. I always expect to play no matter where I go, but sometimes you've got to work your way to that," Gibson said. "I've been getting a lot of reps. I don't know if that's just a rookie thing with them throwing reps at me, but that just shows that they see something in me."

Washington has Adrian Peterson, Bryce Love, J.D. McKissic and Peyton at running back.

Washington Football Team Reportedly Created Lewd Videos For Dan Snyder

Aug 27, 2020 9:05 AM

Controversy continues to swirl around Washington Football Team owner Daniel Snyder.

In a Wednesday story by The Washington Post, dozens more team employees directly implicated Snyder in the team's previously reported culture of sexual harassment.

More than 100 interviews were conducted and it was reported that Snyder "has presided over an organization in which women say they have been marginalized, discriminated against and exploited."

The Post reports that Larry Michael, Washington's longtime team broadcaster and a senior vice president, directed the crew of a 2008 cheerleader photoshoot to compile lewd outtakes, including topless shots in "sharp focus" and moments where cheerleaders had bare breasts inadvertently exposed, for a private video for Snyder.

Snyder, who's vowed to remake Washington's culture on multiple occasions this offseason, has since responded to the allegations.

"The behavior described in the Washington Post's latest story has no place in our franchise, in our society," he said. "I take full responsibility for the culture of our organization ... I have admittedly been too hands-off as an owner and allowed others to have day-to-day control to the detriment of our organization. Going forward I am going to be more involved, and we have already made major changes in personnel, bringing in new leadership to drive cultural transformation on and off the field."

The Washington Football Team canceled Thursday's scheduled practice in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin.

Washington had been scheduled to practice at FedEx Field on Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, Ron Rivera said, "Jason Wright and I worked to develop a response that has the right balance between the business of football and being truly thoughtful about the social injustice we witnessed with this latest incident in Wisconsin."

Washington will resume practice Friday and probably will make up the missed workout at FedEx on a later date.

NFL's 32 Teams Collectively Worth $99 Billion

Aug 26, 2020 1:29 PM

The average NFL franchise is worth more than $3 billion, according to data compiled by Sportico.

The Dallas Cowboys rank first in the NFL at $6.43 billion with the Cincinnati Bengals ranking last at $2.12 billion.

The fair-market value of the NFL's 32 franchises collectively is $99 billion when considering team-related businesses and real estate held by owners.

The teams’ $15.83 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year, which represents the 2019 season, was greater than that of 298 companies on the Fortune 500. That averages to about $495 million per team.

In 2019, the Cowboys generated an estimated $871 million in revenue, which was 81% greater than the average of the other 31 teams.

Aug 20, 2020 9:20 PM

Ron Rivera has been diagnosed with lymph node cancer following a self check.

"I was stunned," Rivera told Adam Schefter. "But I was angry because I feel like I feel like I'm in best health I've been in."

Rivera felt a lump in early July and saw a doctor a few weeks later.

Rivera said he plans to continue coaching.

"Doctors encouraged me to do it, too," he told Schefter. "They said, 'If you feel strongly, do it. Don't slow down, do your physical activities.' But everyone keeps telling me by week 3 or 4, you'll start feeling it."
