Ron Rivera: Washington Name Issue 'A Discussion For Another Time'

Jun 30, 2020 9:22 AM

Ron Rivera was asked during an interview on 670 The Score’s McNeil & Parkins Show about the controversial name of the NFL's Washington franchise.

Rivera was named the team's head coach earlier this offseason.

"I think that's a discussion for another time," Rivera said, adding that the team's name was "always part of football" when he was growing up.

"I think it's all about the moment and the timing," he added. "But, you know, I'm just somebody that's from a different era that when football wasn't such a big part of the political scene. You know, that's one of the tough things for me, too, is I've always wanted to try to keep that separate. People have wanted me to get involved in politics, you know, when I was coaching and I kept telling them, 'It's not for me to get up here and influence people.' I have my beliefs, I know what I think, you know, I support the movements, you know, support the players. I believe in what they're doing and, again, you know, I think that there are certain elements to certain things that it's all about the timing and the best time to discuss those things."

Adrian Peterson Hopes To Play Through 2023

Jun 24, 2020 8:22 AM

Adrian Peterson said in an interview with TMZ that he hopes to play through the 2023 season.

"Man, why not four more years?" Peterson said. "Why not?"

Peterson has 14,216 career rushing yards, 4,139 behind Emmitt Smith for the all-time record. He had 898 yards in 2019, and 1,042 in 2018.

"I don't want to ever be in a position where I look back and say, 'Man, I should have played two more years, I should of played another year.' I want to enjoy it. I'm still chasing a championship. You know, I can still play the game at a high level," the 35-year-old said.

Terry McLaurin: Dwayne Haskins Ready To Prove Himself

Jun 12, 2020 7:39 AM

Terry McLaurin, who was teammates with Dwayne Haskins at Ohio State before they both landed with Washington, believes the quarterback is ready to prove himself.

The pair have also been working out together in Virginia as the team's offseason program goes on remotely.

"Dwayne's looked great," McLaurin said. "He looks really cut up, he's slimmed down. He's having fun again I feel like. A lot was thrown at him his first year, and I'm not making any excuses for him at all, but I feel like his focus is great right now physically, mentally. ... He's ready to prove himself right and just ready to be the leader and the quarterback that this franchise needs and deserves."

Adrian Peterson 'Without A Doubt' Planning To Kneel

Jun 8, 2020 8:50 AM

Adrian Peterson "without a doubt" will be taking a knee during the national anthem to protest racial injustice and the running back expects to be joined by several NFL players this coming season.

Peterson made his comments to the Houston Chronicle in discussing Drew Brees' comments last week that players kneeling during the anthem were "disrespecting the flag." The New Orleans Saints quarterback later apologized.

The league adopted a policy in 2018 that required players to stand for the anthem but allowed them to stay in the locker room during it, only to pull the policy back after an agreement with the NFL Players Association.

"Just four years ago, you're seeing Kaepernick taking a knee, and now we're all getting ready to take a knee together going into this season, without a doubt," Peterson said.
