FedEx has severed its naming-rights ties with the Washington Commanders, ending their agreement two years early by taking advantage of the team's change in ownership.

The remaining two years were worth approximately $15 million in revenue.

The Commanders must now find another sponsor. The team announced $75 million in upgrades and improvements to their stadium earlier this week.

While the move caught the team by surprise, according to multiple sources, the Commanders have been quietly seeking a new partnership for the past two months.

There are a number of teams interested in Sam Howell, according to reports.

The Washington Commanders have five picks in the first three rounds of this year's NFL Draft, which gives them multiple options at the quarterback position. Washington also has an estimated $73.6 million in cap space.

A fifth-round pick in 2022, Howell started all 17 games last season and posted a 63.4 completion percentage, 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

Washington could also lose veteran Jacoby Brissett in free agency.  

Former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is finalizing a two-year deal to join UCLA's staff as the Bruins' associate head coach/offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN on Saturday night.

The move marks a significant hire for new UCLA coach DeShaun Foster, who intends to forge an NFL identity with the Bruins. It also marks a homecoming for Bieniemy, who grew up in the area and was a Bruins assistant from 2003 to 2005.

"Southern California," Bieniemy wrote in an email Saturday.

The Washington Commanders have hired former Detroit Lions senior director of player personnel Lance Newmark as assistant general manager.

Newmark will report to new general manager Adam Peters.

He spent the last 26 years with the Lions in the player personnel department.

The Washington Commanders are hiring Anthony Lynn to serve as their run game coordinator, according to a source.

Lynn was the San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach/running backs the past two seasons.

The Commanders also have finalized their front office by hiring Lance Newmark from the Detroit Lions and reassigning former general manager Martin Mayhew, per a source.

The Washington Commanders have agreed to hire Brian Johnson in a prominent role on their offensive staff.

The Philadelphia Eagles parted ways with Johnson as offensive coordinator after the 2023 season. Johnson was previously quarterbacks coach of the Eagles for two seasons. 

The Washington Commanders fired offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after one season with the team, coach Dan Quinn said during his introductory news conference.

Bieniemy was considered a long shot to return, but the move became official when Washington hired Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinator Sunday night. Quinn said he delivered the news to Bieniemy in person Monday.

The Washington Commanders moved quickly to fill their offensive coordinator position, hiring former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury, multiple sources told ESPN on Sunday night.

But the Commanders weren't finished, adding Joe Whitt Jr. as their defensive coordinator, according to sources.

Former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury, who was close to joining the Las Vegas Raiders as their offensive coordinator, has emerged as a candidate for the same job in Washington, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Kingsbury was going to join Las Vegas coach Antonio Pierce's staff until a breakdown in contract talks ended that pursuit Saturday, agent Erik Burkhardt told Schefter.

The Washington Commanders have interest in hiring Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator.

Kelly interviewed at least twice for the Las Vegas Raiders' vacancy.

Kelly is currently head coach of UCLA.
