Jones Dreams Of Cowboys Having LBs Like Willis And Bowman

Sep 2, 2014 11:14 PM

Jerry Jones knows what he wants the inside linebackers of the Cowboys to look like -- San Francisco's Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman. "We all watched Bowman and Willis out there, and boy, did those guys make a difference," Jones said this week. Jones said he'd love to see if Bruce Carter can bring that kind of speed to the field to pair with Sean Lee. "This is my dream," Jones said. "It's not exactly the prototype for the makeup of the two guys you'd want in the middle -- you might want more of a thumper, a big guy, to go along with Sean Lee. But if we can keep both those guys out there, adjust our defense, we might be going toward Bowman and Willis area like they have in San Francisco."

Carlos Rogers Hopes To Have Future With 49ers

May 28, 2014 1:45 PM

Having spent just one season with the 49ers, Carlos Rogers hopes he has a long-term future with the club. "It's about trying to keep this team together, because we've got something really special here," the cornerback said. "There's always bits and pieces you need to fulfill, and coaches and general managers will decide that. But keep this team as close as we can and we've got something special from the top down." Rogers, who had a career-high six interceptions in 2011, said that he'd like his next deal to be for four or five years.

Boley Denies Giants Targeted Williams Because Of Concussions

May 18, 2014 6:28 AM

A pair of special teams players for the Giants said following Sunday's win over the 49ers that they were aware of kick returner Kyle Williams and his history of concussions. "The thing is, we knew he had four concussions," Jacquian Williams said. "So that was our biggest thing, was to take him out of the game." New York linebacker Michael Boley was asked about Williams on Tuesday and denied any targeting. "When you're playing, you don't think about someone's past injuries or what they had wrong with them," Boley said. "Obviously, if something was wrong with them, they wouldn't be on the field if it was that bad."

Giants Targeted Kyle Williams' Concussion History

May 28, 2014 1:46 PM

Devin Thomas, wide receiver for the Giants, told the Star-Ledger that his team targeted Kyle Williams due to his history with concussions. Williams made two mistakes on punt returns following a big hit from Tyler Sash in the third quarter. “He’s had a lot of concussions,” Thomas said. “We were just like, ‘We gotta put a hit on that guy.’ … Sash did a great job hitting him early and he looked kind of dazed when he got up. I feel like that made a difference and he coughed it up.” “… The thing is, we knew he had four concussions, so that was our biggest thing, was to take him outta the game,” Jacquian Williams said. Williams told reporters on Jan. 2 that he had suffered four concussions.

Jim Harbaugh: No-Fumble Call 'Analogous With The Tuck Rule'

Oct 15, 2014 12:52 PM

Jim Harbaugh said on Monday that he believes the no-fumble call on Ahmad Bradshaw in the NFC Championship Game will go down in history. "In my opinion, that was a fumble," Harbaugh said. "I'm sure the league will defend it and the officials will defend it. But to me, that play was still going on. There was still struggling by Bradshaw. ... I felt like it was analogous with the tuck rule." Of course, the tuck rule hurt the Raiders 10 years ago when officials said Tom Brady's arm was in a passing motion late in a divisional playoff game that New England went on to win.

Kyle Williams Accepts Responsibility For Fumbled Punt Return

Apr 22, 2014 12:08 PM

Kyle Williams is taking full responsibility for his punt-return fumble, which set up Lawrence Tynes' winning 31-yard field goal in overtime Sunday night, calling the moment "painful." New York won the NFC Championship Game over San Francisco, 20-17, earning a trip to the Super Bowl. "I really didn't pay attention to Twitter," said Williams, who was filling in for injured punt returner Ted Ginn Jr. "All the feedback I needed was family and friends, the guys in the locker room." Shortly after the game, Williams was made a villain on the Internet and he received a number of death threats. "It's one of those things you have to take accountability for," Williams said. "Everybody is responsible for what they do on the field. It's something that I was responsible for, and I made a mistake and it's time to own up to it and move forward."

Alex Smith, Rogers Hope To Re-Sign With 49ers

Sep 12, 2014 7:56 AM

Alex Smith and Charles Rogers will be two of San Francisco's most important free agents this offseason. Both players said on Monday that their preference is to re-sign with the 49ers. “I’m not going to get into that, at this point, I love it here," said Smith when asked about whether he's considering testing the open market. "I love what’s going on, I love this team, the coaching staff. I love everything about it. No question I want to stay.” "They want to get it done, want to go one and get started on it as soon as possible," said Rogers. "Hopefully I don’t even reach free agency. They said they want me back. They definitely want me back, but at the same time will they be able to match the highest bid if I hit free agency and still keep this team together? Probably not, so they just said, ‘Keep your mind on the team first.’ They’re going to try their best to get the job done.
