T.O. Breaks Out, Cowboys Win

Oct 31, 2014 8:39 AM

Terrell Owens had easily his best game of the 2008 season on Sunday, posting 213 yards and a touchdown reception against the 49ers. The yardage total was the second-highest of his career and the most in the NFL since Philadelphia's Kevin Curtis had 221 yards in September of 2007. The production, along with the 35-22 win, should help ease tensions in the Cowboys' locker room. Owens spent the week complaining about the team's struggling offense.

Cal Might Play At Candlestick During Renovation

Oct 31, 2014 3:02 PM

Memorial Stadium, home of the California Golden Bears, will soon undergo a $200 million renovation, and the team might play at Candlestick Park during the construction. What they have (to decide) is whether the Berkeley stadium is seismically safe for them to continue playing in - and there are regents who believe it is not," said Jared Blumenfeld, acting director of San Francisco's Recreation and Park Department, who has been in talks over the Bears' potential move to city-owned Candlestick Park.

Vernon Davis: I Want Coach Singletary Around

Oct 16, 2014 10:07 PM

Vernon Davis scored a touchdown in San Francisco's impressive win on Sunday over St. Louis and is getting along with Mike Singletary who banished him to the locker room during their home loss against Seattle several weeks ago. "I like Singletary; I want coach Singletary around ? as long as he wants to be around," Davis said. "I think he's a great coach. "I'm proud of him." "Coach Singletary, you can't do nothing but like him," said running back Frank Gore. "He's going to be straight up with you, and (from) a coach, that's what you want. With a coach being straight up, that's the best way to get better as a team."

Hill Accomplishes Feat Untouched By Montana And Young

May 18, 2014 5:17 AM

Shaun Hill had a perfect passer rating of 158.3 in the first half of Sunday's 35-16 win over the Rams, a feat never accomplished by even the Hall of Fame quarterbacks that have worn red and gold, Steve Young and Joe Montana. "I didn't realize that," Hill said. "It might say someone was perfect for a time being but I can promise you, there were some mistakes in there. The important thing is we have to enjoy this win. It's been a long time since we had this feeling."

Pats Unlikely To Franchise Cassel?

Sep 30, 2014 10:07 AM

The Patriots have until Feb. 19 to determine whether to place the franchise tag on Matt Cassel, whose contract expires after the season. That gives them three months from Monday to decide his future with the club. Because the NFLPA won't allow teams to franchise players if they have no intention of keeping them, according to Peter King, the Patriots won't be able to franchise Cassel if they intend to trade him. King expects Cassel to be a free-agent and end up making $9 million a year with Minnesota, Detroit, San Francisco, St. Louis or whatever Josh McDaniels coaches in 2009, should the offensive coordinator get a head-coaching job.

Rams' Jackson Out Against 49ers

Aug 22, 2014 10:07 AM

Rams' running back Steven Jackson will miss the team's game against the 49ers on Sunday because of his injured right thigh. He didn't practice on Friday, and by sitting out will have missed three of the team's last four games. "I really didn't think I would miss a game, let alone two or three," Jackson said. "For it to linger like this, it really begins to make you wonder what's really going on."

Gore Says He's Ready To Face Rams

May 16, 2014 10:10 AM

49ers' running back Frank Gore claims that he is ready to face the Rams on Sunday despite suffering a concussion in Monday night's game against the Cardinals. "I'll be all right," said Gore. "I think I jammed it (his neck). I was out of it for a while. I'll be fine." Coach Mike Singletary claims that Gore doesn't have a concussion. "Frank Gore is a football player. He does not know what a concussion is. He has no idea," Singletary said. "In all seriousness, Frank has a neck strain. It may feel like a concussion. I talked to Fergie (head athletic trainer Jeff Ferguson), who is one of the finest trainers in the country. He (Gore) does not have a concussion. He's good to go."

Singletary: I'm Very Thankful To Work With Martz

Oct 30, 2014 11:28 AM

There has already been much discussion as to the working relationship between Mike Singletary and Mike Martz. "I'm very, very thankful to be working with Mike Martz, and I have a great relationship with him," Singletary said. "And I don't want to make it seem like we're best of friends. It's a professional relationship. But even so, I've had the opportunity to sit down with him many nights and just talk. Just talk about our guys; talk about where we are; talk about the possibilities; kind of dream together. We we've got a great relationship, as well as Greg (Manusky)."

Martz Blames Officials, Not Play Calling For 49ers' Loss

Oct 16, 2014 1:23 PM

The way the 49ers lost to the Cardinals on Monday had some scratching their heads. Offensive coordinator Mike Martz said on Tuesday that the officiating, not the play calling, is to blame, according to an ESPN.com report. The Cardinals stopped Michael Robinson on a run up the middle from the 2?-yard line as time expired, preserving Arizona's 29-24 victory. Martz said the spot of the ball doomed the play.
