SoFi Stadium Construction Continues Within Rules

Mar 26, 2020 8:06 AM

The construction of SoFi Stadium, the future home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, is ongoing amid the statewide "Safe at Home" orders in California.

The directives put in place at the city and state levels last week allowed for the continuation of commercial construction, but things could change going forward.

"We're going to do whatever we need to do to save lives," Alex Comisar, a spokesman for L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, said.

"We'll continue to take direction from public health experts from the county and the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] to determine what policies need to be put into place. With any activity that's going on, we expect folks to take into account proper social distancing."

In a statement released Friday, representatives for SoFi Stadium said construction "continues moving forward with an increased emphasis on the already existing elevated health and safety protocols put in place last week."

Philip Rivers Considered Retirement

Mar 21, 2020 4:54 PM

Philip Rivers considered retirement this offseason before deciding to continue his career and sign with the Indianapolis Colts on a one-year, $25 million deal.

"I think really where we settled in is I still love to play, certainly not coming off my best year [in 2019], but I know I still can play at a high level," Rivers said. "... It was one of those deals where we said if there's nothing else out there then that'll be our answer. I don't want to just try to hang on to play.

"The fact it ended up being with this organization, it made it that much more exciting to keep going," he added.

ESPN had interest in Rivers for Monday Night Football.

Chargers Mulling Pursuit Of Cam Newton

Mar 19, 2020 9:01 AM

The Los Angeles Chargers are debating whether to pursue a trade with the Carolina Panthers for Cam Newton, according to a source.

A trade may be unlikely, however, given the inability of team doctors to give Newton a physical amid the spread of COVID-19.

The Chargers could look to sign Newton if the Panthers eventually release him.

Austin Ekeler: Tom Brady Would Be Good Fit With Chargers

Mar 11, 2020 9:00 AM

The legal tampering window opens on Monday, but that doesn't mean players can't publicly comment on potential free agents.

During an appearance on NFL Network, Austin Ekeler mentioned that Tom Brady would be a good fit with the Los Angeles Chargers.

"Here's why I think it would be a good fit. We just lost a lot of leadership in Philip Rivers, right? So it's like, all right, there's a void there," Ekeler said.

"Also, Russell Okung, one of our tackles, got traded. He was one of our team leaders as well. So there's a void in leadership right there. It's an opportunity for people to step up, but if you bring a guy like Tom Brady in the room, he's been there, done that. He's already got the leadership qualities and he's already proven that he's a winner. So hey, we can build something around that, too."

Philip Rivers will leave the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason and signing with the Indianapolis Colts "is being treated like a fait accompli by a lot of people from rival teams," according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

The Colts started Jacoby Brissett at quarterback in 2019 following the sudden retirement of Andrew Luck.

Nick Foles and Marcus Mariota, who also could be available this offseason, have close ties to the coaching staff of the Colts.
