New Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman says that he is confident the team will establish a consistent running offense, which he expects to elevate Justin Herbert.

"Can you imagine Justin Herbert with a great running game?" Roman said. "... We don't know, but I can imagine what it might look like. So that's kind of the vision."

The Chargers haven't ranked inside the top 10 in rushing yards per game since 2007.

"I think in this league, you can really, really help dictate the defenses if you have a strong running attack," Roman said. "If you really talk to most defensive coordinators in this league and got 'em off to the side when they're playing a really good running team, they're sweating a little bit. They're sleeping a little less that week."

The Chargers have hired former All-Pro linebacker NaVorro Bowman as the team's linebackers coach, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.

Bowman played under new Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh for four seasons when he coached the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014. Bowman was an All-Pro in each season with Harbaugh.

New York Jets director of player personnel Chad Alexander is leaving the team to become the assistant general manager of the Los Angeles Chargers, according to a report.

Alexander spent the past five seasons with the Jets. Prior to that, he spent 20 years with the Baltimore Ravens.

He reunites with Joe Hortiz, who left the Ravens to become the Chargers' general manager. 

The Los Angeles Chargers have hired Greg Roman as offensive coordinator and Jesse Minter as defensive coordinator. 

Roman previously worked with Jim Harbaugh as offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers as well as at Stanford. Roman was on the coaching staff of the Baltimore Ravens for six years before sitting out the 2023 season.

Minter spent the past two seasons as defensive coordinator of Michigan under Harbaugh. 

Jim Harbaugh has made it clear that he has lofty goals for the Los Angeles Chargers.

"It needs to be multiple, multiple championships," Harbaugh said. "We're going to be humble. Humble and hungry. But that's our goal. Our goal is to treat people in a first-class manner and to win multiple championships."

Harbaugh mentioned that in one of his first meetings with the Chargers, owner Dean Spanos said he was "starving" to win.

The Chargers have made only one Super Bowl appearance in franchise history (1995).
