Philip Rivers Wants To Play Football But Many Factors At Play

Dec 22, 2019 11:14 PM

The future of Philip Rivers is uncertain at the age of 38 years old and a disappointing 2019 season.

"I'm capable enough physically and mentally, there's no question," Rivers said. "Yes, I do want to play football. I do, and that's how I feel deep down as I stand here."

Rivers, however, also went on to say he will take some time to discuss his decision with his family and also the Los Angeles Chargers to see if they want him back.

"There's a lot of factors," Rivers said. "There's a personal side and family side to mine. I'm going to have a daughter in college as well, too. So time is ticking, and I've got a sixth-grade son that I've got to get ready to coach at some point, so there's all kinds of factors.

"But I know I can still do it, and I know I can still do it at a high enough level for us to win. I have not done it well enough this year, but I still do love to play, and love to lead these guys and this team. It's been an array of things that have compounded, to keep us from winning enough games to advance into the tournament."

Austin Ekeler Expects 'Frenzy' Around Chargers With Free Agency Near

Dec 19, 2019 8:39 AM

The Los Angeles Chargers have a number of players headed for free agency, which could make for a lot of roster turnover this offseason.

Philip Rivers, Melvin Gordon, Michael Schofield and Hunter Henry are all set for free agency.

Austin Ekeler will be a restricted free agent as well.

"I think upstairs they're trying to keep that on the down low until the season's over because it's about to be a frenzy in our locker room, especially on the offensive side with all the contracts that are coming up," Ekeler said.

"Everyone's kind of looking around like, 'Hey, what do you guys think is going to go on?' None of us know. We don't know what they're going to do upstairs. We know what we want. But that's a different story."

Melvin Gordon: 'I Don't Know' Where I'll Be Next Season

Dec 4, 2019 8:58 AM

Melvin Gordon sat out the first quarter of the season in hopes of a new contract that never came from the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers are all but out of the playoff picture and questions are surfacing about where Gordon will play next season.

"I don't know, man," Gordon said. "It's hard to look and say you warrant anything when you're losing. I just have to do my job. No one knows their situation. It's the business side of things. I don't know if I'll be here or somewhere else. Hopefully, it is here."

The Chargers will be officially eliminated from the playoffs with a loss or Pittsburgh victory.

"It kind of sucks because a lot of the goals I wanted to reach, individually and as a team, will not be attained this year," Gordon said. "It's unfortunate. A lot of hard work, in a sense, is wasted."
