The Chargers are working to hire Baltimore Ravens director of player personnel Joe Hortiz as their general manager, sources told Adam Schefter on Monday.
Hortiz will be paired with new coach Jim Harbaugh, who was hired by the team last week.
In his first interview since accepting the Chargers coaching job, Jim Harbaugh told CBS that he had talked to some of the team's top players, including wide receiver Keenan Allen, safety Derwin James Jr. and quarterback Justin Herbert.
Harbaugh said his meeting with Herbert left him feeling "a little starstruck."
The Philadelphia Eagles are hiring former Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.
The move comes two days after the Eagles hired Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator in the first move of a coaching staff overhaul by Nick Sirianni. Moore will replace Brian Johnson, who was fired earlier this week.
Jim Harbaugh has agreed to leave Michigan to become head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers on a five-year deal.
"The only job you start at the top is digging a hole, so we know we've got to earn our way," Harbaugh said in a statement. "... This organization is putting in the work -- investing capital, building infrastructure and doing everything within its power to win. Great effort equals great results, and we're just getting started."
Harbaugh is coming off a national championship at Michigan and also reached the NFC Championship in his first three NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
Harbaugh also played quarterback for the Chargers for two seasons (1999-2000).
"Jim Harbaugh is football personified, and I can think of no one better to lead the Chargers forward," owner Dean Spanos said in a statement. "The son of a coach, brother of a coach and father of a coach who himself was coached by names like Schembechler and Ditka, for the past two decades Jim has led hundreds of men to success everywhere he's been -- as their coach. And today, Jim Harbaugh returns to the Chargers, this time as our coach. Who has it better than us?"
The Las Vegas Raiders hired former Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco as their new GM, it was announced on Tuesday.
This comes less than six weeks after the Raiders beat the Chargers 63-21 at Allegiant Stadium on Dec. 14 and Telesco and coach Brandon Staley paid for the historic loss with their jobs the next day.
The Los Angeles Chargers have interviewed NFL chief football administrative officer Dawn Aponte for their general manager position.
The Chargers parted ways with Tom Telesco in December.
If hired, Aponte would become the first female general manager in the NFL. She has served in her current position in the league since 2017.
Jim Harbaugh is expected to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers this week for a second interview to be the team's next head coach, according to sources.
Harbaugh, who played quarterback for 14 years in the NFL, spent his final two seasons (1999-2000) with the Chargers.
The Atlanta Falcons are also scheduling a second interview with Harbaugh.
Harbaugh is the Chargers' first candidate known to have scheduled a second interview.
Mike Vrabel is interviewing with the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday to discuss their head coaching vacancy.
The Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks are also interested in interviewing Vrabel.
The Tennessee Titans parted ways with Vrabel last week.
Jim Harbaugh is interviewing for NFL head coaching jobs during this offseason cycle, but he also remains engaged with Michigan on a new contract.
Discussions include unusual termination clauses where he would be granted immunity from termination from any finding or sanction that could arise from multiple current NCAA investigations.
The buyout in his current contract dropped from $2.25 million to $1.5 million on January 11. Michigan is seeking that to rise to about $4 million in a new deal.
Harbaugh led Michigan to a 15-0, national championship season just over a week ago.
Michigan has offered Harbaugh a six-year contract worth $11.5 million per season.
The Jim Harbaugh derby for NFL teams is about to heat up.
The Los Angeles Chargers are set to be the first NFL team to meet with Harbaugh about their head-coaching vacancy, according to ESPN and multiple reports.
Atlanta, Carolina, Las Vegas, Seattle, Tennessee and Washington also have openings.
