NFL Waiting On Better L.A. Stadium Offers

Dec 21, 2014 2:21 PM

The NFL wants better options and offers on a stadium site in Los Angeles before a team actually makes a decision on relocating.

The St. Louis Rams are the clear frontrunner to move to Los Angeles when the time comes, according to Jay Glazer.

Dec 21, 2014 1:24 PM

Philip Rivers has a bulging disk in his lower back and may need surgery in the offseason.

Rivers has dealt with a rib ailment for much of the season, but the back is the present issue and what forced him to miss recent practice time.

Rivers was 33-for-54 with 356 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions Saturday at Levi's Stadium in the San Diego Chargers' 38-35 comeback win.

Dec 20, 2014 2:57 PM

Roger Goodell told the San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Rams that there will not be a team that moves to Los Angeles for next season, according to league sources.

Philip Rivers Battling Serious Back Injury

Dec 18, 2014 1:15 PM

Philip Rivers, who missed practice Wednesday, is battling a back injury that is more severe than the team has acknowledged, a league source said.

Rivers' back injury was quietly added to San Diego's injury report last week, to go along with the rib injury he has been battling for weeks. By now, Rivers' rib injuries are improved, making his back injury the significant issue, a league source said.

Rivers has struggled in recent weeks, but he expects to play on Saturday at the San Francisco 49ers.

"At this point in the week I think there's no doubt," he said Wednesday.

Chargers Won't Relocate For 2015 Season

Dec 16, 2014 10:32 PM

The San Diego Chargers have announced they will not relocate ahead of the 2015 season.

“It’s great news,” Mayor Kevin Faulconer said Tuesday night. “The Chargers belong right here in San Diego. I’m looking forward to working productively with them on a solution, and I’m confident we can achieve one together -- and one the public will support.”

The Chargers would have had to pay the City of San Diego $17.6 million to leave in 2015.

Chargers special counsel Mark Fabiani, the team’s point man in its quest to get a new stadium built, said in a statement that the Chargers will “keep working to find a publicly acceptable way to build a Super Bowl-quality stadium in San Diego. Calendar year 2015 will constitute the team’s (14th) year of work on a San Diego stadium solution.”

NFL Appears Unlikely To Relocate To L.A. In 2015

Dec 15, 2014 11:29 AM

Roger Goodell is expected to spend more time working on the NFL's issues with getting a team or teams to Los Angeles now that the new personal conduct policy is in place.

It currently sounds unlikely that a team will arrive in Los Angeles in time to play in 2015.

“There’s a schism about what to do in Los Angeles,’’ said one source with knowledge of L.A. effort. “The big issue is not only whether it should be one or two teams, and where the team or teams will be, but also which franchise should get the first shot? There is sentiment that [Rams owner] Stan Kroenke shouldn’t have the first shot. The Raiders are in horrible shape. The Chargers have a terrible stadium. In St. Louis, the city is trying at least to find a solution.”
