Melvin Gordon, a teammate of Philip Rivers for the last five seasons, believes the quarterback will sign with the Indianapolis Colts this offseason.

"I think he goes to the Colts," Gordon said. "I don't know, that's just my thought."

The running back is also set to become a free agent.

Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni previously worked as a Chargers assistant for five years.

"He has [connections]," Gordon said. "Nick ... he came from here, we had him, and he's the offensive coordinator there. They run the same playbook, so it'd be easy, he could come right in and he could be telling guys what to do, he knows what's going on already."

The Los Angeles Chargers will consider starting Tyrod Taylor at quarterback in 2020.

Taylor was the backup of Philip Rivers last season.

Rivers and the Chargers mutually agreed to part ways.

"Tyrod Taylor is a heck of a quarterback," Lynn told AM 570 LA Sports. "We couldn't have a better backup right now, and now he has an opportunity to maybe step up into a starting role. I've had Tyrod before [in Buffalo], and I know what this young man brings to the table, in the passing game and the running game.

"One of the things he does very well is take care of the football. I believe every year he's started in this league he's been the No. 1 quarterback in taking care of the football. I believe more games are lost than won. So if we can just take care of the football and take it away, we'll be OK."

The Los Angeles Chargers are moving on from Philip Rivers, but they are confident in what they have at the position.

The widespread belief has been that the Chargers will either draft or sign a quarterback this offseason.

"I like our internal options," Tom Telesco said Tuesday on AM570 LA Sports.

The Chargers have Tyrod Taylor, 30, and second-year man Easton Stick out of North Dakota State.

Philip Rivers is seeking a new NFL team after playing his entire career with the Chargers.

“I can say for certain that if I’m playing, it’s a two-year maximum,” Rivers said. “Whoever the suitors are, I think that would be their hope as well. Because you never know how it goes. Shoot, if we stink it up after one year, I’m probably done. If we play really good, they’ll probably want to go again.

“Certainly you want a chance to win a championship, but it’s not just about that. If you told me right now, ‘You’re going to play for two years, and you’re going to be good. But y’all will not win a Super Bowl. Will you still play?’ Heck yeah, I’ll still play.

“So it’s not like it’s a Super Bowl or nothing. But if it’s a team where it’s going to be tough sledding and they’re two years away from even having a chance, and they led the league in most sacks given up or something, then it’s, ‘I don’t think so, guys.’ ”

The Los Angeles Chargers and Philip Rivers have mutually agreed that he won't re-sign with the franchise this offseason.

"After stepping back a bit from last season, we reconnected with Philip and his representatives to look at how 2019 played out, assess our future goals, evaluate the current state of the roster and see if there was a path forward that made sense for both parties," said General Manager Tom Telesco. "As we talked through various scenarios, it became apparent that it would be best for Philip and the Chargers to turn the page on what has truly been a remarkable run.

"We agreed that making this decision well before free agency would allow everyone to put themselves in the best position for success in 2020.

"I've said before that Philip can still compete at a top-starter level and, in a perfect world, number 17 is your quarterback forever. Obviously, we live in an imperfect world where the only constant is change. I think Philip's tremendous perspective, both when it comes to football and when it comes to life, helped lend clarity to a very complex situation."

"I am very grateful to the Spanos family and the Chargers organization for the last 16 years," said Rivers. "In anything you do, it's the people you do it with that make it special. There are so many relationships and memories with coaches, support staff and teammates that will last forever, and for that I am so thankful.

"I never took for granted the opportunity to lead this team out on to the field for 235 games. We had a lot of great moments, beginning in San Diego and then finishing in LA. I wish my teammates and coaches nothing but the best moving forward.

"I'm not sure what the future holds, but my family and I look forward to seeing what God has planned for us next.

Shane Steichen will continue to serve as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, who removed his interim tag.

The Chargers' passing offense improved in total net yards per game, passing yards per game and passing yards per attempt under Steichen.

In addition, the Chargers' rushing offense improved by 42.6 yards per game.

Steichen replaced Ken Whisenhunt in the offensive coordinator's role at the end of October.
