NFL Won't Penalize Eagles For QB Decisions In Week 17

Jan 13, 2021 1:08 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles won't be penalized after the NFL investigated how they handled their quarterback decisions during their Week 17 loss to Washington.

The Eagles removed Jalen Hurts in the fourth quarter for third-string quarterback Nate Sudfeld despite losing by just three points.

Pederson told his quarterbacks the week leading up to the game that Carson Wentz would be inactive and Sudfeld would get some snaps.

Hurts struggled in the game was playing through a leg injury, which led the league to determine the Eagles didn't intentionally lose the game.

Pederson's Firing Increases Chances Carson Wentz Remains With Eagles

Jan 12, 2021 1:38 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles fired Doug Pederson on Monday, a move that may have an impact on Carson Wentz's future with the franchise.

Pederson's firing increases the chances of Wentz remaining in Philadelphia, according to a source.

Pederson was expected to keep his job despite a 4-11-1 record in 2020, but owner Jeffrey Lurie had multiple meetings with the coach this past week that left him unconvinced about the vision going forward.

While announcing the decision, Lurie said the firing was not specific to Wentz or one position group, but rather a regression of the offense overall. He did not commit to Wentz returning next season but suggested the new coaching staff would work with him to get him back on track.

"I don't think any owner should decide that. Carson, to me and to I think virtually everyone in our organization, is a quarterback that in his first four years was in many ways elite, comparable to some of the great quarterbacks the first four years in the league," Lurie said."The fifth year, obviously not satisfactory for whatever reasons, there are probably multiple reasons for that."

GM: Eagles Not Talking About Trading Carson Wentz

Jan 5, 2021 9:11 AM

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke positively of Carson Wentz on Monday despite reports that the quarterback plans to ask for a trade this offseason.

It was reported this past weekend that Wentz feels his relationship with Doug Pederson is fractured beyond repair.

"That is not anything we're talking about right now," Roseman said of trading Wentz.

The Eagles drafted Wentz No. 2 overall in 2016 and then gave him a four-year, $128 million extension three years later.

"When you have players like that, they're like fingers on your hands -- you can't even imagine that they're not a part of you, that they're not here. That's how we feel about Carson," Roseman said.

Report: Many Players, Coaches Were Outraged By Benching Of Jalen Hurts

Jan 5, 2021 8:54 AM

It appears not everyone within the Philadelphia Eagles was on the same page when Doug Pederson pulled Jalen Hurts late in Sunday night's loss to the Washington Football Team.

The decision to sit Hurts in favor of Nate Sudfeld in the second half of a close game angered many on the sidelines.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that "many Eagles players and coaches were shocked and outraged" by the move.

According to McLane, two defensive players "had to be held back" from confronting Pederson. Jason Kelce also reportedly approached Pederson for answers.

Pederson explained after the loss that he was trying to win the game, but the majority believe the decision was made to ensure the Eagles would pick higher in the upcoming NFL Draft.
