Jalen Hurts Receives First Team Reps With Eagles At Practice

Nov 29, 2020 8:27 AM

Jalen Hurts has received first team reps at quarterback this week ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles' game on Monday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Carson Wentz is still expected to start, but Hurts could see time in the game.

Hurts was a second round pick in April and has primarily been used as a gadget player.

Doug Pederson hesitated last week when asked about potentially making a quarterback change before ultimately saying Wentz would remain the starter.

Doug Pederson: Benching Carson Wentz Would Send Wrong Message

Nov 23, 2020 9:28 AM

Doug Pederson says the Philadelphia Eagles will stick with Carson Wentz for next week's game against the Seattle Seahawks despite the quarterback's struggles.

"If you get to that spot where you don't start him or you bench him, I think you're sending the wrong message to your football team that this season is over, and that's a bad message," Pederson said. "We have to work through this. When times get tough, sometimes that might be the easy thing to do.

"This sport is bigger than one guy. We all have a hand in it and we all have to fix it," he said.

Wentz finished 21-of-35 for 235 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns. The Eagles are 3-6-1 in the muddled NFC East.

"The media, you guys can ask whatever questions you want. I know that's part of the deal. I know it's always a scrutinized position, playing quarterback, and that's what I signed up for when I came out and played quarterback going back to high school. I can take it," Wentz said on questions about him being benched. "I can wear it. Are we playing as good as we can as a team? No. Am I playing my best football? No. There were some circumstances out there today that we left some plays out there on the field. We'll be critical, we'll go back and watch the tape.

"You guys can ask whatever questions you want, bring up whatever you want and for me, I'm just going to put my head down and go to work."

Eagles Place Five Players On Reserve/COVID-19 List

Nov 20, 2020 9:28 AM

After learning that a player tested positive for COVID-19, the Philadelphia Eagles placed five players on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Wide receivers J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and John Hightower, running back Corey Clement and defensive end Vinny Curry were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and wide receiver Deontay Burnett landed on the Practice Squad COVID-19 list.

"The individual close contacts who were identified through contact tracing are in self-isolation," the team said in a statement. "We are following NFL-NFLPA intensive protocols and remain in communication with the league on this matter."

Doug Pederson: Eagles Would Trade For Carson Wentz All Over Again

Nov 18, 2020 3:50 PM

Doug Pederson remains confident in Carson Wentz despite the struggles of the Philadelphia Eagles this season.

The Eagles traded two first round picks, a second, third and fourth to the Cleveland Browns in order to use the second overall pick on Wentz in 2016.

Wentz is 35-29-1 with no playoff victories since. The Eagles play the Browns in Week 11.

"Oh heck yeah, I'd do it all over again," Pederson said. "He's the guy we wanted back then. He's still the guy we want today. And I love everything about Carson Wentz, and he's a great leader for our team and our city and I'd do it all over again."

Wentz was in the MVP conversation until a season-ending knee injury in 2017. This season, his passer rating (73.1) ranks ahead of just Drew Lock and Sam Darnold among qualified quarterbacks.

Doug Pederson Backs Carson Wentz After Brett Favre's Comments

Nov 12, 2020 8:55 AM

Doug Pederson is distancing himself from recent comments by Brett Favre that the Philadelphia Eagles should have moved forward with Nick Foles instead of Carson Wentz.

"I respect his opinion and his words. Those aren't mine," Pederson said. "Please don't put words in my mouth or we're going to have a problem. Carson's our guy, bottom line. End of story."

Appearing on ESPN's First Take on Tuesday, Favre offered the opinion that the Eagles should have gone in a different direction when choosing between Foles and Wentz after Foles helped deliver a Super Bowl championship in 2017 and then rally the team back into the playoffs a year later.

The Eagles let Foles walk in free agency and signed Wentz to a four-year, $128 million extension.

"Carson's our guy. Carson was our draft pick. Carson's the guy that is going to carry us and lead this football team. Listen, everybody is entitled to their own opinion," Pederson said. "Those aren't my words, those aren't Howie [Roseman]'s words, Jeffery [Lurie]'s words, those are his words. I respect that opinion. Whatever he wants to say, that's fine and we're going to remain friends. It doesn't bother me one way or another."

Carson Wentz: I'm Not Good Enough

Nov 2, 2020 1:04 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Dallas Cowboys by two touchdowns on Sunday night, but Carson Wentz struggled yet again.

Wentz went 15 for 27 with 123 yards, two touchdown passes and four turnovers (two interceptions and two fumbles).

"I'm not good enough," the quarterback said. "I can be better. I know I will be."

The Eagles are 3-4-1 and lead the NFC East.

"Some of these shots down the field, I'm going to keep giving these guys chances and I can be better and put the ball in the right spot," Wentz said. "But I'm not going to change my aggressive mentality. We're going to start connecting on some of those big plays."
