Darius Slay Changing To No. 24 To Honor Kobe Bryant

Darius Slay, who was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles last week, will wear No. 24 next season.

Slay wore No. 23 with the Detroit Lions, but wants to honor the late Kobe Bryant.

"I'm going Kobe mode," the cornerback said in an Instagram video. "Black mamba. Rest in peace to the GOAT. One of my favorite players. I will look good in 24."

Eagles Acquire Darius Slay From Lions

The Detroit Lions have traded Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source.

In need of a cornerback, the Eagles watched Byron Jones, James Bradberry and Chris Harris sign elsewhere in free agency.

Philadelphia will send a third- and fifth-round pick in this year's draft to Detroit for Slay.

After completing the deal, the Eagles will sign Slay to a three-year, $50 million extension.

The Philadelphia Eagles discussed a possible DeAndre Hopkins trade with the Houston Texans before the wide receiver was dealt to the Arizona Cardinals.

Philadelphia backed out of talks based on what Houston wanted for Hopkins and what he would have wanted in a new contract.

The Texans ended up getting David Johnson and a second-round pick, plus a swap of fourths, for Hopkins.

Marty Mornhinweg Returns To Eagles As Consultant

The Philadelphia Eagles have hired Marty Mornhinweg as an offensive consultant to Doug Pederson.

Mornhinweg worked as an assistant under Andy Reid in Philadelphia for a decade. He was offensive coordinator from 2006 to '12.

He was Pederson's quarterbacks coach in 1996 with the Green Bay Packers. He coached with Pederson under Reid from four years.

Jason Peters Will Test Free Agency

The Philadelphia Eagles will let Jason Peters test free agency by mutual agreement.

"We are appreciative of everything Jason has contributed to the organization over the last 11 seasons in Philadelphia, including building a first-ballot Hall of Fame career and helping us win our first Super Bowl Championship. Jason has been an incredible leader and person both on and off the field," the team said in a statement.

Peters turned 38 in January and has fallen off from his previous Pro Bowl levels at tackle.
