Jul 30, 2020 9:12 AM

Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson has tested positive for the coronavirus, but said he feels "strong and ready to go."

The Summit was a gathering of offensive lineman from around the league in Dallas earlier this month.

"I have been working hard in preparation for a long, grueling season and have tried to take all necessary precautions to build a safe and healthy environment during the sessions. I have and will continue to take this seriously and encourage everyone else to do so as well," Johnson wrote on social media.

"I will follow all protocols and I look forward to joining my teammates and coaches on the field soon."

Lane Johnson: Carson Wentz Ready For Prime Time Season

Jul 16, 2020 9:13 AM

During an appearance on NFL Network, Lane Johnson said the Philadelphia Eagles will "be contenders again" as long as they avoid a run of serious injuries.

Specifically, Johnson feels Carson Wentz will be motivated to excel after he suffered a concussion in Philadelphia's playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

"I think we all have something to prove every year," Johnson said. "Especially with how last year ended, him coming out early with the hit by [Jadeveon] Clowney, as far as just competitiveness, his drive, this is it for him. As far as having the pieces around him this year and really ready to click, I think he's ready for a prime time season, and when he’s healthy, man, he's so dangerous, and I think we'll see more of that what you just saw across the screen."

Eagles Won't Be Allowed To Play In 2020 With Fans In Stadium

Jul 14, 2020 8:26 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles will not be allowed to play games during the 2020 season with fans in attendance.

"The Eagles are still going to be allowed to play, although without crowds. The Phillies will continue to be allowed to play, although without crowds," managing director Brian Abernathy said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"We have been in communication with the Eagles. We have told them our expectations are that they don't have fans."

The Eagles have yet to publicly comment.

"We are gathering information on Philadelphia," said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy, who added that what happens in Philadelphia will not impact the NFL's decision-making for the other 31 teams.

"Decisions on the number of fans at stadiums will be determined on a market-by-market basis," McCarthy said.

Eagles Fine DeSean Jackson For Conduct Detrimental To Team

Jul 10, 2020 6:31 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have fined DeSean Jackson for conduct detrimental to the team following his anti-Semitic comments on social media.

"This has been a difficult and emotional week for our community and organization.," wrote the Eagles.

"The Philadelphia Eagles do not tolerate hate towards any individual or group. We believe in respect and equality for all races, ethnicities, and faiths. We as an organization want to help be an instrument for positive change. This can only occur through strong, deliberate actions and a commitment to learn and grow.

"We have had a number of constructive conversations over the last few days, not only with DeSean Jackson, but also with many other players, members of the organization, and leaders in the community. That has led us to the point where we and he are ready to take the next steps.

"Today we have penalized DeSean for conduct detrimental to the team. He accepted these consequences and apologized. In our many conversations with him, it has also been made clear that this is only the beginning. We have discussed a concrete plan for how we and he can heal moving forward. He understands that in order to remain on the team, he must also commit to supporting his words with actions. We have been encouraged by his desire to educate himself, but we all understand that there is still a lot of work to be done. We will continue to assist DeSean in this process, and we also know that all of us in our organization need to listen and learn more about things that are unfamiliar or uncomfortable to us.

"We must continue to fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination, while not losing sight of the important battle against systemic racism."

Jeffrey Lurie Announces Documentary Called 'The Meaning Of Hitler'

Jul 9, 2020 3:11 PM

Jeffrey Lurie's production company has announced a new documentary titled 'The meaning of Hitler.'

'The Meaning of Hitler' uses the title of the bestselling book from 1978 to put a spotlight on our culture’s fascination with Hitler and Nazism as white supremacy has been on the rise again.

The announcement of the documentary comes days after DeSean Jackson posted anti-Semitic quotes attributed to Adolf Hitler on social media.

The documentary features interviews and insight from historians and writers including Deborah Lipstadt, Martin Amis, Sir Richard Evans, Saul Friedlander, Yehuda Bauer, and famed Nazi hunters Beate and Serge Klarsfeld.

“We couldn’t be prouder that The Meaning of Hitler is the first completed film made by our new documentary production company, Play/Action Pictures,” said Lurie, who served as executive producer of the Oscar-winning docu Inside Job. “I envisioned Play/Action to be a leading creative force for films that engage with the most crucial and challenging issues of our time. The rise of white supremacy and neo-fascism in the United States and the world over are among the most important and serious threats we face today.”

Julian Edelman Invites DeSean Jackson To Holocaust Memorial Museum

Jul 9, 2020 12:50 PM

Julian Edelman has invited DeSean Jackson to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.

Edelman is Jewish.

"I have seen DeSean play in his career, make outstanding football plays, we've communicated over social media. I've got nothing but respect for his game. I know he said some ugly things, but I do see an opportunity to have a conversation," Edelman said in an Instagram video posted Thursday morning.

"I am proud of my Jewish heritage, and for me, it is not just about religion. It's about community and culture as well," he added. "I am unusual because I didn't identify as Jewish until later in my life. Whenever I encountered hatred, it never really felt like it was aimed at me. It was only after I was part of this community that I learned how destructive hate is. Anti-Semitism is one of the oldest forms of hatred. It's rooted in ignorance and fear."

Edelman said he would welcome a trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture to learn more from Jackson.

"I don't want to distract from how important the Black Lives Matter movement is, and how we need to stay behind it. I think the Black and Jewish communities have a lot of similarities," Edelman said in the video.

"One unfortunate similarity is that they are both attacked by the ignorant and the hateful. It's really hard to see the challenges a community can face when you're not part of it. So what we need to do is, we need to listen. We need to learn. We need to act. We need to have these uncomfortable conversations if we're going to have real change."

Eagles, NFL Condemn DeSean Jackson's Anti-Semitic Messages

Jul 7, 2020 1:03 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles and the NFL have condemned anti-Semitic comments from DeSean Jackson.

The Eagles called the posts “offensive, harmful and absolutely appalling” in their statement.

“DeSean’s comments were highly inappropriate, offensive and divisive and stand in stark contrast to the NFL’s values of respect, equality and inclusion. We have been in contact with the team which is addressing the matter with DeSean,” the statement said.

On his Instagram story feed, Jackson featured a quote he attributed to Hitler that said white Jews "will blackmail America. [They] will extort America, their plan for world domination won't work if the Negroes know who they were."

Jackson on Tuesday posted an apology on Instagram saying he "really didn't realize what this passage [attributed to Hitler] was saying" and that he was "sorry for any hurt I have caused."

"I just want to first off extend an apology on behalf of me and what I stand for because ... I never want to put any race down or any people down," Jackson said in the video. "My post was definitely not intended for anybody of any race to feel any type of way, especially the Jewish community. What I posted, I definitely didn't mean it to the extent that you guys took it and I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm, you know, very apologetic and I just want you guys to understand that it never was intended to be ... to put any race down or any religion down.

"... I just probably should have never posted anything that Hitler did, because Hitler was a bad person and I know that. I was just trying to uplift African-Americans and slavery and just enlighten my people. ... I didn't intend any harm or any hatred toward any people. ... I'm for love and I extend it every day."
