Ranking The NFL's Oldest, Youngest Starters By Team

Oct 31, 2014 2:22 PM

The Atlanta Falcons, San Diego Chargers and Baltimore Ravens have the three oldest collections of starters in the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and Cincinnati Bengals are the youngest.

Former Vikings head coach Bud Grant had a popular saying that "for every young guy you start, you lose a game."

Pete Carroll worked for Grant early in his coaching career, but has had one of the youngest teams in the NFL during his tenure with the Seahawks.

"I was of that mindset in classic fashion until I had to be in charge of calling all the shots and then it just flipped in me that we don't know where we're going unless we find these guys out," Carroll said. "One of the really exciting things about playing guys early is ... by the middle and to the end of the season, you’ve developed players that fit into your rotations now that add to your depth and also add to the opportunity to not over-play your older guys."

Below is a full list with the rank in offense/defense in parenthesis.

1. Atlanta Falcons (2/5)
2. San Diego Chargers (7/3)
3. Baltimore Ravens (1/15)

Rashad Jennings To Start Week 1 At RB For Jaguars

Dec 13, 2014 1:17 AM

Rashad Jennings will start at running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars when they begin Week 1 against the Vikings.

Maurice Jones-Drew continues his holdout as he seeks a long-term deal.

“Again, Rashad Jennings is going in as the starter. I don’t know how that came out being any different,” Mike Mularkey said.

Jones-Drew will forgo a $267,765 paycheck for each regular-season game he misses.

Jennings has averaged 4.9 yards per carry in the preseason.

“I think he can be a really good football player. A really good back. From what I’ve seen on tape before I got here and what I’ve seen in person, I’d say we’ll be OK,” Mularkey said.

Jaguars 'Need More Guys' Like Justin Blackmon

Oct 31, 2014 4:25 PM

Justin Blackmon has only been around the Jaguars for a few weeks, but he is already making an impact on his first professional team.

"I thought he played well again. He made the catches. We need more guys doing what he's doing," coach Mike Mularkey said after Thursday night's preseason game.

"When the ball is in the vicinity, we've got to make catches. He's doing that. We need more than one guy to do what they did. When the ball is tightly covered, we need to make the plays. We didn't do that, and they did."

Jones-Drew Didn't Think Holdout Would Last This Long

Dec 4, 2014 2:41 AM

Maurice Jones-Drew's holdout has lasted 30 days, but is starting to open up more as the season approaches.

Jacksonville will open the season against Minnesota on Sept. 9.

"I didn't think it would get to this point, from where it started," said Jones-Drew.

Jones-Drew said he has not requested a trade.

"You'd have to talk to the Jaguars about that," he said. "They're the ones who have to go through with any deal."

Bears, Packers, Steelers, Raiders Rated As Having Best Uniforms

Nov 30, 2014 8:24 AM

The Bears have the best uniforms in the NFL, according to Paul Lukas of Uni Watch.

"True, the helmet design is starting to look a tad dated," writes Lukas. "But the striped sleeves, striped socks (now a rarity in the NFL, alas), unique number font, and even the perma-memorial to Papa Bear all score major points, and the Bears may be the only team in the league who look as sharp on the road as they do at home. The cream of the NFL crop."

The Packers, Steelers, Raiders and Eagles round out the top-five.

"Just suit up, baby," writes Lukas about the Raiders. "Silver and black look just as good today as they did when Al Davis came up with them. There's probably some marketer out there who wants the team to dress up like the fans in the Black Hole (and hey, that actually could be fun as a one-off thing), but you don't mess with something this elemental. Also: The Raiders are among the few NFL teams that wisely have declined to adopt the new Nike collar format."

Jones-Drew Prefers To Remain With Jaguars

Oct 31, 2014 9:31 AM

Maurice Jones-Drew says that he would prefer to remain with the Jaguars.

"It's a part of the business, but I'd rather be here," the running back said. "I'd rather stay here with my team, my family. I talk to my teammates every day, my kids go to school here, I'm rooted here in Jacksonville with the NFL. I'd love to end my career here in Jacksonville, but part of the business is sometimes you can't do things you want."

Jones-Drew wants a new contract from Jacksonville and owner Shad Khan recently knocked him for not being with the team. He sounded hopeful a resolution could be reached when asked if he was going to miss the season opener.

"I don't think we're there yet (missing a regular-season game)," Jones-Drew said. "We're moving forward to doing something. It's day by day. I hope we can get something done."
