McCown To Start For Oakland, Russell To Play

Sep 16, 2014 7:09 PM

Josh McCown will start at quarterback for the Raiders on Sunday in Jacksonville, with rookie JaMarcus Russell slated to come off the bench as a reserve. Coach Lane Kiffin had considered giving Russell his first career start against the Jaguars and then bring in McCown to finish the game. Russell, this year's No. 1 overall draft pick, has played five series in two games as a reserve so far. Kiffin said Russell could come in during the first half and possibly might finish the game depending on how the situation played out.

Jags Lose DT Stroud For Season

Jul 4, 2014 7:09 PM

Three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud, who missed four games earlier this year because of a league-imposed suspension, was placed on injured reserve by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday afternoon, ending his season. The seven-year veteran, who along with John Henderson comprises one of the most imposing tackle tandems in the NFL, suffered an ankle injury in last Sunday's victory over Carolina. The team termed the injury a "significant" one, and the prognosis was that Stroud would not be able to return, even for the playoffs. Stroud, 29, has had chronic ankle problems in the past and during the offseason underwent microfracture surgery, a procedure typically used on knee injuries, to address the issue.

Jags Dominate Panthers, Improve To 9-4

Nov 9, 2014 1:40 PM

Jacksonville's defense turned in its best performance in two months. Fred Taylor topped it with the longest run in team history. Together, they helped the Jaguars move a step closer to securing an AFC playoff berth. Taylor ran for 132 yards and a touchdown; the defense looked like its old self; and the Jaguars beat the Carolina Panthers 37-6 on Sunday. Jacksonville (9-4) harassed Vinny Testaverde, stuffed DeShaun Foster and locked down Steve Smith - the defense's most complete game since consecutive wins at Denver and Kansas City early in the season.

Stroud Returns To Jags After Serving Suspension

May 18, 2014 7:41 AM

Three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud rejoined the Jacksonville Jaguars today after completing a four-game suspension for violating the league's steroid and related substances policy. The Jaguars (8-4) went 3-1 without the 6-foot-6, 310-pound defensive linemen. His return was a welcome sign for a team that has struggled to pressure quarterbacks without blitzing. Jacksonville sacked Indianapolis' Peyton Manning once and hit him a few more times in Sunday's 28-25 loss, but the defense didn't do enough to prevent the Colts from converting 10 of 13 times on third down and scoring their first three touchdowns on the crucial down.
