Jaguars Won't Be Aggressive In Free Agency

Jul 11, 2014 7:47 AM

The Jaguars were aggressive in free agency last year, but that won't be the case in 2012. "What took place last year won't be the case this year," Gene Smith said. "It's not a place we want to be overly active year in and year out." Last season, with the lockout, free agency overlapped with training camp. The Jaguars signed linebackers Paul Posluszny and Clint Session, safety Dawan Landry, defensive end Matt Roth and nickel cornerback Drew Coleman.

Jaguars Hoping To Broaden Regional Fan Base

Jul 11, 2014 7:15 AM

The Jaguars are hoping to expand their regional fan base heading into the 2012 season. Macky Weaver, the team's senior vice president/sales and marketing, said Jacksonville took some steps in that direction the past two years, but he knows developing a more regional following won't happen overnight. "It's a process that takes time, but you need to start building," Weaver said. "We may look back and say this is when the Jaguars started becoming a regional franchise."

Mularkey Sees Similarities Between Gabbert, Ryan

Jul 11, 2014 12:14 AM

Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey knows a few things about what it takes to be a successful rookie quarterback in the NFL. Mularkey was Matt Ryan's offensive coordinator when Ryan first entered the league out of Boston College, and Mularkey helped coach Ryan to one of the better rookie seasons by a quarterback in NFL history as he led the Falcons to an 11-5 record and a wild-card berth. He now enters another relationship with a young signal-caller: Blaine Gabbert. Mularkey recently told The Florida Times-Union that Gabbert reminds him a little bit of Ryan. "With Matt, it was never good enough," Mularkey said. "Even when it was good, it wasn't good enough. I think he (Gabbert) wants to be good. It’s important to him."
