Trent Baalke: Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence Will Get Extension Done

Jan 26, 2024 8:39 AM

Trent Baalke has admitted that a long-term contract extension for Trevor Lawrence is among the Jacksonville Jaguars' plans this offseason.

"As far as Trevor and the long-term relationship with this team, there's no doubt in that," Baalke said. "We are going to get something done [at] the appropriate time."

The Jaguars went 9-8 and missed the playoffs this season after a hot start.

Lawrence had fewer passing yards (4,016) and touchdowns (21) and had more interceptions (14) than he did last season, something Baalke said is in part due to his injuries. The GM said Lawrence was able to learn from these struggles.

"I think Trevor had another learning year, right? Like how we all do when we are a third-year guy in this league," Baalke said. "I think there are some areas where he made great strides in."

He continued, saying, "We have to do a better job of keeping [Lawrence] safe and protected. He has to do a better job of protecting himself. … You know when your quarterback has [four injuries] all in one year, that's alarming. So, we have to work to improve that."

Panthers, Bears, Vikings, Jaguars To Host 2024 Games In Europe

Jan 11, 2024 8:41 AM

The NFL has designated the four teams that will give up a home game in 2024 and host a game in Europe instead -- the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings.

The Bears, Jaguars and Vikings will each host a game in London, while the Panthers will host a game in Munich.

Opponents and dates will be announced along with the rest of the NFL schedule in the spring.

The NFL will not play in Mexico City due to renovations at Estadio Azteca. But the league previously announced plans to play a 2024 game at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil.

In addition to Caldwell, Doug Pederson also fired defensive line coach Brentson Buckner, passing game coordinator/cornerbacks coach Deshea Townsend, inside linebackers coach Tony Gilbert, safeties coach Cody Grimm, senior defensive assistant Bob Sutton, and defensive quality control coaches Tee Mitchell and Sean Cullina.

Pederson hired Caldwell in 2022 as a first-time coordinator after Caldwell spent the previous three seasons under Todd Bowles as Tampa's inside linebackers coach.

David Tepper Appears To Throw Drink At Jaguars' Fans

Jan 1, 2024 2:18 PM

David Pepper was caught on video apparently showing a drink in the direction of fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars during the Carolina Panthers' 26-0 loss. With the loss, the Panthers will finish the season with the worst record in the NFL but they've traded the selection to the Chicago Bears.

A Panthers spokesperson declined to comment. NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the league is "aware of the video" and has "no further comment at this time."

Tepper paid $2.75 billion for the organization in 2018.

Tepper has fired three head coaches in-season since 2019, including Frank Reich after a 1-10 start to this season and Matt Rhule after a 1-4 start last season.
