The Jacksonville Jaguars have begun their search for a new head coach with Doug Pederson and Jim Caldwell on their list.

The Jaguars also requested permission to interview Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, and Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

The Jaguars also have requested an interview with Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have moved from the third spot in the 2022 NFL draft to No. 1 following their loss to the Houston Texans, and a win by the Detroit Lions over the Arizona Cardinals. 

The Jaguars had the No. 1 pick last season and selected Trevor Lawrence. 

Jacksonville will visit the Jets and Patriots over the next two weeks before closing out the regular season at home against the Colts. The Lions have the Falcons, Seahawks and Packers remaining on their schedule. 

Urban Meyer has apologized for his tenure with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"I just apologize to Jacksonville," Meyer told NFL Network. "I love Jacksonville. It's one of the reasons I took the job. I still think Shad [Khan is] a great owner. It's heartbreaking. I just had a dream of it becoming a destination place with a new facility he agreed to build and some day to walk into that stadium where it's standing room only. Because I know how bad the people of Jacksonville want it.

"So, I'm just heartbroken that we weren't able to do that. I still believe it's going to be done. It's too good of a place."

The Jaguars fired Meyer with cause and don't intend to pay him for the remaining four years on his contract. 

Shad Khan had considered firing Urban Meyer as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars for several weeks before actually moving forward with the decision.

Khan spoke with Meyer following a 20-0 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Meyer had few answers for the issues plaguing the Jaguars or how he planned to fix them. 

"It was determined to wait until the conclusion of previously scheduled appointments that week to make the announcement," spokesman Jim Woodcock said. "Those appointments included an employee staff luncheon and meeting with Jacksonville media, both to recognize the 10th anniversary of Shad's purchase of the Jaguars, on Monday as well as NFL meetings in Dallas on December 14 and 15."

Trevor Lawrence seems pleased with the Jacksonville Jaguars' decision to fire coach Urban Meyer.

The Jaguars have named offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell as the interim head coach.

"He's very even keel," Lawrence said of Bevell. "Always the same person never gets too high or too low. That's something that I respect and that I can level with.

"So I'd say that's the biggest thing that we need right now. Someone that's consistent and just to move forward and push past it."

The Jacksonville Jaguars have fired head coach Urban Meyer, ending a tumultuous tenure with the franchise after only 13 games.

"After deliberation over many weeks and a thorough analysis of the entirety of Urban's tenure with our team, I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone," owner Shad Khan said in a statement. "I informed Urban of the change this evening. As I stated in October, regaining our trust and respect was essential. Regrettably, it did not happen.  

"In the spirit of closure and recharging our players, staff and fan base, I will not comment further until some point following the conclusion of the NFL season."

Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Shad Khan said he will not make a hasty decision, nor will he be swayed by emotion, when it comes to Urban Meyer's status with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars are 2-11 under Meyer in his first season as a professional head coach. He's also faced public criticism for how he's handled himself.

"I want to do the right thing for the team. I want to do the right thing for the city," Khan said. "That, to me, is way more important than just acting helter-skelter on emotion. I think we have a history of really looking at the facts and then really doing the right thing.

"Gus Bradley was here four years. Doug Marrone was here four years. It was wins and losses and this is a little bit different but, you know, I'm going to reflect on all of that and do what's the right thing for the team and the right thing for the city."

The Jacksonville Jaguars plan to retain Urban Meyer as head coach despite a 2-10 record and increasing frustration with his relationship with players and coaches. 

Marvin Jones recently had to be persuaded to return to the team facility after leaving in response to Meyer's vocal criticisms of the Jacksonville wide receivers. 

The conflicts are the latest in a tumultuous first season for Meyer, whose job status came into some question in October after two viral videos that emerged showing him with at least one woman who was not his wife at his restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. 

Urban Meyer has had run-ins with players and other coaches of the Jacksonville Jaguars in recent weeks, which has renewed questions of whether his tenure with the franchise may end after one season.

At this point, there are no signs that Jaguars owner Shad Khan is seriously considering a change. 

Meyer has shifted blame to players and coaches for Jacksonville's 2-10 record.

"During a staff meeting, Meyer delivered a biting message that he's a winner and his assistant coaches are losers, according to several people informed of the contents of the meeting, challenging each coach individually to explain when they've ever won and forcing them to defend their résumés," writes NFL.com.

Trevor Lawrence publicly lobbied for the Jacksonville Jaguars to give James Robinson more playing time on Wednesday.

Robinson was off the field for 16 and 20 consecutive plays the past two games.

"In my eyes, obviously, I'm the one that's out, see all the pieces moving, I see the whole picture," Lawrence said. "Bottom line is James is one of our best players and he's got to be on the field and we addressed it, and I feel like we're in a good spot and the whole team, we're good. Whatever may have happened, I honestly don't even know everything that went into it.

"I'm playing the game and stuff happens on the sideline with coaching decisions. I don't really get into that, but I know and I voiced my opinion: James is one of our best players and he's got to be in the game. I think we're all on the same page, so there's no confusion there. We're going to move forward. I know James is a hell of a player, so I want him out there."
