Colts Asked For Jaylen Waddle In Jonathan Taylor Talks With Dolphins

Aug 31, 2023 6:56 AM

The Indianapolis Colts discussed Jonathan Taylor with multiple teams before this week's soft deadline to trade the running back.

Reports immediately surfaced that the Colts were seeking a significant haul for Taylor, notably a first-round pick. Now a Miami Herald report states that Indianapolis wanted wide receiver Jaylen Waddle "and more" from the Dolphins in exchange for Taylor.

Waddle was the sixth overall pick in 2021. The Colts placed Taylor on the physically unable to perform list Tuesday, immediately lowering his trade value.

Colts GM: Jonathan Taylor Situation 'Sucks' For Everyone

Aug 31, 2023 6:43 AM

Chris Ballard admitted on Wednesday that the situation between the Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor "sucks" for the team, player and fans.

The Colts placed Taylor on the physically unable to perform list after they were unable to trade him prior to Tuesday's self-imposed deadline.

"I'm not going to sit here and give you some rosy picture, like, 'Oh, everything's OK,'" Ballard said. "It sucks for the Colts. It sucks for Jonathan Taylor. And it sucks for our fans. It just does. It's where we're at and we've got to work through it and we're going to do everything we can to work through it. Relationships are repairable. They're repairable."

Taylor is entering the final year of his contract and the Colts told the running back in May that they would not be giving him an extension prior to the 2023 season.

The running back requested a trade when reporting for training camp and, last week, was given permission to seek a trade partner.

"I want everybody to know, Jonathan is a well-respected and a really good human being and a damn good football player," the general manager said. "I think we all know this. Things like this happen. I tell every rookie that comes in, there's going to be a point when we disagree and it's usually about money and it's going to be hard. And just know that doesn't change my care level for you. I care deeply for Jonathan Taylor.

"I won't quit on the relationship."

Packers, Dolphins Were Interested In Jonathan Taylor Trade

Aug 30, 2023 1:41 PM

The Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers were two teams with legitimate interest in trading for Jonathan Taylor.

The Indianapolis Colts entertained offers on Taylor up until their self-imposed deadline of Tuesday.

There is still interest in Taylor from other teams, but he will miss the first four games of the season on the PUP list.

The Packers have three running backs on their initial 53-man roster: veterans Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon along with undrafted rookie Emanuel Wilson.

Jonathan Taylor Remains On PUP List After Colts Decline Trade Offers

Aug 29, 2023 10:00 PM

The Indianapolis Colts did not trade Jonathan Taylor on Tuesday as they did not receive any offers that meet their value of him.

Taylor will remain on the physically unable to perform list, which rules him out for at least the first four games of the season.

The Colts' next-best opportunity to deal Taylor could be before the NFL's Oct. 31 trade deadline.

Two Teams Make Trade Offers To Colts For Jonathan Taylor

Aug 23, 2023 5:33 PM

Six teams have reached out to the Indianapolis Colts with interest in trading for Jonathan Taylor with two making offers.

The Colts gave Taylor permission to seek a trade, but the team is looking for the equivalent of a first round pick in return for him.

Taylor has not practiced since reporting for training camp on July 25. He was placed that same day on the PUP list because of an ongoing issue with his ankle, according to the team.

Jerry Jones On Jonathan Taylor: Comfortable With RBs Cowboys Have

Aug 23, 2023 8:20 AM

The Indianapolis Colts granted Jonathan Taylor permission to seek a trade on Monday and potential suitors have emerged.

The Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers have been linked to the running back in rumors.

The Dallas Cowboys, however, seem unlikely to trade for Taylor.

"I look at every opportunity," Jerry Jones said. "But the way our young backs are playing, I am very comfortable where we are with our backs right now. I feel good about our running back position if we didn't add anybody."

Colts Grant Jonathan Taylor Permission To Seek Trade

Aug 21, 2023 9:46 PM

The Indianapolis Colts have granted Jonathan Taylor permission to seek a trade.

The Colts, however, will be seeking significant trade compensation to trade Taylor. The Colts are looking for a first round draft pick or a collection of picks that equates to one.

Any team that trades for Taylor will certainly have to sign him to an extension. The Colts have shown no willingness to extend Taylor and could be prepared to use the franchise tag on him.

Michael Pittman Believes Anthony Richardson Will End Up In HOF

Aug 18, 2023 8:22 AM

Anthony Richardson hasn't logged a snap in a meaningful NFL game, but Michael Pittman, Jr. sees big things in the future for the Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback.

The Colts drafted Richardson out of Florida with the fourth overall pick. He's already been named the Week 1 starter.

"Yes. Yes he is," Pittman said of Richardson becoming a Hall of Famer. "So he still has probably like 15 years to go, but I mean, dude's a freak out here. He's, what, like 240 [pounds], can probably bench press a house. He's faster than me probably, but I would never tell him that."

Jonathan Taylor Leaves Camp Again For Personal Matter

Aug 17, 2023 7:53 AM

Jonathan Taylor has left Indianapolis Colts training camp once again, this time for a personal matter.

The Colts said in a statement that Taylor left with permission from the team.

Multiple sources claim the absence is not related to the running back's contract standoff with the Colts.

Taylor returned to training camp Monday after leaving Indiana last week to undergo additional off-site treatment on his lingering ankle injury, for which he underwent surgery in January.

He has been seeking a contract extension from Indianapolis since prior to training camp. When the Colts declined to engage Taylor on a new deal, he requested a trade as his relationship with the team began to sour.

Chris Ballard: We Need To Get Jonathan Taylor Healthy

Aug 16, 2023 8:06 AM

Jonathan Taylor has returned to the Indianapolis Colts, but he still isn't practicing as the team takes part in training camp.

Taylor remains on the active/physically unable to perform list while rehabbing from offseason ankle surgery.

The running back has requested a trade amid a contract dispute with the Colts.

"Look, I think the world of Jonathan," Colts general manager Chris Ballard said. "He's been a great Colt, a great player for the Colts. Unfortunately, last year he got hurt early in the season, was dinged up all year, fought through it until he finally got to the point where he had to have this surgery."

Ballard did not indicate Taylor is "holding-in," instead insisting Taylor will return to practice when healthy.

Taylor underwent surgery on his ankle Jan. 25.

"Now, he's finishing his rehab process," Ballard said. "Hopefully as we move forward here, we'll get him back. But we need to get him 100 percent healthy before we do anything."
