Class Schedule Could Delay Luck's Career

Jun 13, 2014 3:24 AM

Andrew Luck might have to wait longer than initially expected to being his NFL career. Stanford's academic calendar provides an interesting logistical hurdle for the expected No. 1 overall pick. Luck is an early entrant into the draft and has not yet graduated. The school is on the quarter system, so he'll have to wait until he finishes finals to report. Stanford's finals are scheduled to be held June 8-13, which may interfere with the first minicamp held by the Colts (June 12-14).

Scouts See Luck As Safer Pick Than Griffin

Jun 27, 2014 3:14 PM

The Colts are trying to add mystery to the first overall selection in next month's NFL Draft, but those around the league believe that Andrew Luck is the clear-cut choice. That would leave Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III for the Redskins, who traded up with the Rams for the second pick. Eight NFL coaches and executives were polled at league meetings Tuesday and all of them said they believed Luck would and should be the top pick. "Luck is just a safer pick," one AFC executive said. "They are both productive, high-quality kids from great families. You can't go wrong with either one. But if you're asking me about whom to take, I have to go with Luck, especially if you're Indianapolis after what they just had with [Peyton] Manning and the awful season they went through. "Get a guy who you know can play right away. At worst, Luck is going to be a good player who can come in and run the offense from Day 1. ... Griffin might end up being better, no question. He's an amazing athlete. But the learning curve with him is going to be a little longer because of the things he did in college."

Irsay: Colts Haven't Decided Between Luck, Griffin

Oct 4, 2014 7:31 AM

Colts owner Jim Irsay insists that the team still hasn't decided who it will take with the first overall pick in next month's NFL draft. The belief is that they will select Andrew Luck, with Robert Griffin III going to Washington. "It's up in the air," Irsay told USA Today. "We have to look at this thing completely open-minded. "You have two outstanding athletes, two great pure passers, two guys from families that are incredible."

Dwight Freeney Expected To Stay With Colts

Oct 31, 2014 6:01 AM

There has been speculation that the Colts could trade Dwight Freeney to save money, but general manager Ryan Grigson denied those rumors. "There's never been any substance that would suggest we're doing anything like that. He's a Colt, period," Grigson said. "Everything with Dwight is great. He's going to be here this year," he added. "We expect him to be a major contributor and a guy who strikes fear in our opponents and those offensive linemen every week."

Andrew Luck To Visit Colts

Jun 13, 2014 3:15 AM

The Colts expect to get a detailed look at Andrew Luck soon. The quarterback is scheduled to visit with the team, which owns the first overall pick in next month's NFL draft, within the next few weeks. Robert Griffin is expected to go second in the draft and the Colts aren't likely to get a personal look at the former Baylor quarterback. "Circumstances didn't allow us to do anything private with him (Griffin) so we did the usual pro day," general manager Ryan Grigson said. "We did the best we could with that situation. We do have a private workout that we're scheduling with Andrew in the future."

Griffin Isn't Conceding Top Pick To Luck

Nov 17, 2014 11:25 PM

Robert Griffin III doesn't believe that it's not a foregone conclusion the Colts will bypass him for Andrew Luck with the first overall pick. Griffin was in Tampa to participate in Jon Gruden's ESPN quarterback camp just 48 hours after his Pro Day in Waco, Texas. The event attracted new Colts coach Chuck Pagano and Indy quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen. "If you say you don't want to be picked No. 1, that means you're not a competitor," Griffin said. "In my mind, there are two No. 1 picks this year and you never know what's going to happen on draft day."

Jets Trade Stanton To Colts

Nov 19, 2014 7:50 AM

The Jets have granted Drew Stanton's wish by agreeing to a trade with the Colts. New York signed Stanton last Friday to be their No. 2 quarterback, but their plans changed when they completed the trade for Tim Tebow. He signed a one-year contract for $1.25 million, including a $500,000 signing bonus the Jets have paid, according to a source. Stanton will presumably backup either Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III depending on who the Colts select with the first overall pick.
