Peyton Feels Good, Expects To Play Again

May 27, 2014 10:11 PM

Peyton Manning says he feels really good and that he expects to play football again. However, there is no timetable for the quarterback's decision. "I really feel good. I continue to make progress every day," he said. "Everything that the doctors have told me has been on point, which is encouraging to me. I just had a great day today with rehab, just got back from the facility, and that's what we continue to do. Just keep trying to get better. So far I have. That's the plan from here on out." Manning said that he'll continue to have checkups over the next several weeks, and termed his mood as "encouraging." The Colts face a March 8 deadline for a decision on Manning. They owe him a $28 million option bonus on that date. If they don't pay it, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Report: Nerves In Peyton's Arm Not Healing Fast Enough

May 19, 2014 8:10 PM

Yahoo! Sports reported on Monday night that Peyton Manning has hit a plateau in his recovery from neck surgery and might not be able to play football again, citing two sources. The vertebrae in Manning's neck have healed as expected, but the nerves in his arm aren't progressing enough to indicate that he will play again. The Yahoo! story also quoted two doctors with experience in spinal fusion surgery who said it could take up to one year before Manning will even know if he can return.

May 27, 2014 8:01 PM

Jim Irsay wants to focus on the Super Bowl this week and will not discuss last week's spat with Peyton Manning. The Colts owner and the quarterback went back-and-forth in the media before issuing a joint statement of peace at the end of the week. Indianapolis is hosting the Super Bowl this week. "I'm not talking about Peyton this week," Irsay said. "When Peyton and I talked (last week), we both thought the focus should be on the Super Bowl. We want to focus on the Super Bowl."

Report: Redskins Interested In Manning If Available, Healthy

May 17, 2014 10:14 PM

The Redskins will have interest in Peyton Manning if he hits either the free agent or trade market, according to a league source. One of the primary concerns is Manning's health after missing the 2011 season while recovering from his third neck surgery in 19 months. "No. 1, is he going to be released?" a league official said. "No. 2, is he going to be healthy? No. 3, at the end of the day, is he willing to come back and play in the NFL? We don't know those questions."

Irsay Wants To Avoid Sentimental Decision On Manning

Jul 3, 2014 7:11 AM

Jim Irsay says that he hopes to avoid making a sentimental decision when it comes Peyton Manning's future with the team. The Colts owner spoke about all the great things Manning has done for the organization and his strong relationship with Manning, but he also expressed clear doubts about the quarterback's health. Irsay said it was his "responsibility" as an owner to only put a player back on the field if "its in [the player's] best interests." "It's your responsibility to not make decisions for sentimental reasons," Irsay said about Manning's option bonus. "This isn't fantasy football."

Belichick: Indianapolis Loves Me Since I Went For It On Fourth-And-2

Jul 29, 2014 4:00 PM

Bill Belichick used his arrival in Indianapolis on Sunday morning to take a playful shot at himself. Asked about the welcome he gets in Indy, Belichick noted that the Super Bowl will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium, the same place where Belichick infamously went for it on fourth-and-2 from his own 28-yard line late in the fourth quarter of what turned out to be a loss. Belichick said that ever since that decision, which set up the Colts for their game-winning touchdown, the fans in Indianapolis have loved him. "I never had too much hospitality here until I went for it on fourth-and-2," Belichick said. "Since then I've been greeted in a lot more friendly manner than I was in the past."

Wayne In The Dark About Future In Indianapolis

Oct 23, 2014 2:25 AM

Reggie Wayne has kept his distance from the Colts during an offseason that has been filled with drama. He has been getting most of his information through the media and said he doesn't know what else is in store for the team over these next few months. "I have no clue, man," Wayne said. "I'm leaning on you guys (the media). You're all saying it's a new regime and that's what it is. "This is one time all of the players are outside of the loop, even 18 (quarterback Peyton Manning). Nobody has a clue." Wayne admitted that it's hard to follow all changes that have been made, especially to the team's coaching staff. "It's like a soap opera," Wayne said. "You're wondering, 'OK, what's next?' "You hear something, then you see it on the ticker, that the Colts are doing this or that. At one point we were thinking Jim Tressel was going to be the coach. All of a sudden it's Chuck Pagano." Wayne will be a free agent in March.
