Released Cornerback Claims Caldwell Isn't Calling Shots

May 29, 2014 9:57 PM

Justin Tryon, released by the Colts on Wednesday, suggests that head coach Jim Caldwell isn't making all the decisions when it comes to who plays and who doesn't. "Caldwell wanted to start me but it wasn't up to him!" Tryon tweeted. Another post later said: "IM BLESSED!! lay off of Caldwell he's a great coach! Peace." Caldwell denied the cornerback's comments on Thursday. "Well, probably without being boastful or seeming as if that I’m reacting to that particular statement, but I can just tell you that if I wanted him to start, he would have started," Caldwell said. "If I wanted him to be here, he’d still be here, plain and simple. I’m not going to carry on a back-and-forth, you know, because the young man did a good job for us while he was here and I hope he’s able to land with someone else. "You always say there's always sort of a three-pronged sort of a decision-making progress. All of us have an opportunity to talk about different issues, and we can certainly express our opinion. But in players and dealing with players on the field and that sort of thing, that's my decision. I get the ultimate decision there in that regard. That's the way it's always been."

Peyton Has 'Outside Chance' Of Playing In December

Nov 30, 2014 7:30 PM

The Colts will keep Peyton Manning on the active roster because owner Jim Irsay says there is an "outside chance" that the quarterback could return in December. "I didn't say Peyton out 4 season FOR SURE, keeping him on Active Roster n taking it month by month/Outside chance of return n December possible," Irsay wrote on his Twitter page. Indianapolis will play their final regular season game on Jan. 1. Manning was expected to miss at least two months after having neck surgery Sept. 8 and possibly more, which could cost the four-time league MVP the entire season.

Peyton Says He's Over 'Woe Is Me' Stage

Oct 9, 2014 1:59 AM

Peyton Manning will return to the Colts on Sunday to watch the team's game against the Steelers from the press box. Manning will sit next to quarterbacks coach Ron Turner at Lucas Oil Field and be involved in the locker-room routine before the game and at halftime. "I walked around for a while angry, in a bad mood. ... 'Woe is me,'" he said. "I've gotten over that. It doesn't do any good." Manning wouldn't speculate on when and if he could return to the field after undergoing his third surgery in 19 months. "I do hope to get healthy, and when I'm healthy and cleared to play, I want to be out there," Manning said. "But I'm off the clock as far as that goes. I'm just trying to follow the doctors' orders and get healthy."
