Colts, Manning Expect Exam Results This Week

Aug 27, 2014 8:00 AM

Colts quarterback Peyton Manning was scheduled to undergo scans Wednesday in Indianapolis to see whether the fusion of his neck vertebrae is complete. Once the results are in, doctors will determine the next step in his rehabilitation. Manning has been unable to run or throw since Sept. 8, when he had his third neck surgery in 19 months, a vertebrae fusion procedure that removed soft tissue and attached the bones together with a graft.

Money Won't Stop Colts From Drafting QB

Nov 11, 2014 5:53 PM

Colts vice chairman Bill Polian says that money won't keep the team from drafting a quarterback in this coming April's NFL Draft. "The payment to the first-round draft choice is far less than it was under the old (collective bargaining) agreement, so you could afford that," Polian told a caller on his weekly radio show. "I'm perfectly fine with that approach." Peyton Manning agreed to a five-year contract worth $90 million in July, a deal that includes a $28 million bonus payment due in February. He hasn't played since having neck surgery in May and has barely practiced since agreeing to the deal. At 0-11, Indianapolis holds a two-game lead in the chase for the No. 1 overall pick, which most analysts believe will be used on Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.

Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is set to have another checkup on his surgically repaired neck this Wednesday. However, when speaking to reporters on Sunday he gave no indication to how he is progressing. "I'll probably check in with y'all this week," Manning said. Manning underwent neck surgery Sept. 8 -- his third such operation in 19 months -- and has been out indefinitely since the operation.

Reggie Wayne Frustrated, But Keeping His Cool

May 21, 2014 2:15 PM

Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne is having a hard time with the team's winless season, but he's working hard not to take his frustration public. Wayne's biggest game of the season came in Week 1 in a loss to Houston. He had seven catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. "The only way I go without snapping (with) the media is every game when I come in, first thing I do is put my helmet and stuff down and grab my phone," Wayne said. "Always got a text message from my wife and it's a picture of my kids. "I don't think she's doing it on purpose, but when I see my kids, that calms the storm. They bring everything back."

Colts Sticking With Painter As Starter

Nov 28, 2014 11:47 AM

The Colts have announced that Curtis Painter will remain their starting quarterback heading into Sunday's game against the Panthers. Indianapolis is 0-10 with Painter, who took over in September when veteran Kerry Collins suffered a concussion. Dan Orlovsky is the only other healthy quarterback on the team's roster, and coming off a bye week, many fans thought it was a logical time to make a change.

Irsay: Manning, Rookie Could Co-Exist In 2012

Sep 30, 2014 9:55 PM

Colts owner Jim Irsay believes that Peyton Manning and a possible rookie quarterback could co-exist on the team's roster next season. Irsay, a constant Tweeter, opened up about the subject on his Twitter feed Sunday. "Yea I saw [USC quarterback Matt] Barkley n [Stanford QB Andrew] Luck last nite, and there's others with big time potential," Irsay tweeted. "but we want 18 back under center soon/18 now-2012Class future." Manning has missed the entire season following his third neck surgery in two years. Indianapolis is winless and in line to earn the first overall pick in April's 2012 NFL Draft. "It's very possible 18 back at full strength n we take future QB high in draft," Irsay wrote. "it's not necessarily 1 or the other...stay tuned4 wild ride!"

Orlovsky, Sims Staring At Another 0-16 Season

Sep 19, 2014 9:13 PM

Three years after going 0-16 with the Lions, Colts backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky and linebacker Ernie Sims are flirting with imperfection again. The Colts have lost their first ten games with Peyton Manning sidelined. "Somebody told me once, you'll either be humbled in this league or this league will humble you," Orlovsky said. "I'm not saying you hang your hat on going 1-15, no, but you're not making history," he added. Sims actually smiles when talking about a lousy situation. He is remarkably upbeat, not what one would expect given the line of questioning. "I don't even think about 0-16," Sims said. "We approach every game trying to get a win. We prepare ourselves like each game is a brand new week. "This is hard. This is real hard. Not winning, it hurts."
