Devin Funchess Opts Out, Cites Family's Health

Jul 29, 2020 9:24 AM

Devin Funchess has opted out of the 2020 season.

The Green Bay Packers wide receiver cited concerns about his family's health. He signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal that included a $1 million signing bonus with the team this offseason.

Funchess canceled several scheduled media opportunities shortly after he signed with the Packers because of what sources said at the time was the need to care for family members diagnosed with COVID-19.

Aaron Rodgers Doesn't Expect To Finish Career With Packers

Jul 28, 2020 2:40 PM

Aaron Rodgers revealed he expects to finish his career on a team besides the Green Bay Packers. The Packers selected Jordan Love in the first round of the draft.

"I think that's probably what happens," said Rodgers. "Based on just the circumstances around everything, just look at the facts. They traded up, they drafted him, I would say they like him, they want to play him."

Rodgers signed a four-year, $134 million extension with the Packers in August of 2018.

Rodgers doesn't expect Love to wait to supplant him as he did early in his career with Brett Favre.

"Different scenario," Rodgers said. "Now I think quarterbacks are playing earlier, it gives some latitude for young coaches and GMs to play their guys, and I get it. I really do, I don't harbor any ill will about it."

Mark Murphy On Pandemic: 'Time Is No Longer On Our Side'

Jul 6, 2020 9:21 AM

In a column written for the Green Bay Packers' website, Mark Murphy opened up about how the coronavirus pandemic could continue to alter the 2020 NFL season.

"With training camps set to start in less than a month and with COVID-19 showing no signs of slowing down, the Packers will have to make several difficult decisions in the coming weeks," the CEO wrote.

"Since the pandemic arrived earlier this year, NFL teams have had the benefit of time. Unlike professional basketball, hockey and baseball teams who were either in the middle of their seasons or about to start, we were in the beginning of our offseason. NFL teams were able to handle free agency, the draft and their entire offseason programs virtually. We’ve made decisions along the way, but the major ones we’ve been able to put off until we have more information. With so much uncertainty, it has made sense that we have not made decisions until we absolutely have to. As we near the start of training camp, though (rookies will start practice on July 21 and veterans on the 28th), time is no longer on our side."
