Aaron Jones, Packers Discussing Extension

May 27, 2020 4:39 PM

Aaron Jones would like to finish his career with the Green Bay Packers, but he doesn't know if that will be feasible.

Jones is entering the final season of his rookie deal.

"Whether it's my first year or my last year on a deal, I'm going to be just as motivated," Jones said Wednesday on a Zoom call with the Packers media contingent. "It doesn't change just because a contract is on the line for me. I mean, I'm going to continue to work and do everything in my power. I trust my agency and the Packers. With that, I would love to be a lifelong Packer. That's my take on that."

Jones and the Packers were open to discussing an extension at the combine in February. Jones' agent confirmed this week that talks have taken place.

"There have been conversations and there will continue to be," Chris Cabott said.

Packers Have $385M In Reserve Fund

May 14, 2020 8:48 PM

The Green Bay Packers have a reserve fund of $385 million and might need to dip into it depending on what happens with the 2020 NFL season.

The Packers long ago established the savings account to ensure the franchise could cover expenses for one year.

Mark Murphy said he is hopeful the NFL season will start on time "with full stadiums, but we are also planning for a whole range of contingencies and examining the financial ramifications."

He pointed to the "ample resources available ... to weather these difficult times."

Green Bay's reserve fund has dropped since last summer when it was reported at $397 million.

The Packers are publicly owned, with more than 5 million shares of stock held by 361,256 people. No one person can own more than 200,000 shares.

Packers Picking Jordan Love Was More GM Than Coach

May 3, 2020 12:53 PM

The Green Bay Packers created a lot of drama when they drafted Jordan Love in the first round of the NFL Draft last week.

The latest report indicates the selection was influenced more by general manager Brian Gutekunst than coach Matt LaFleur.

"Matt was on the [phone] line with us and understood where I was coming from," Gutekunst said of the pick. "I think it was one of those things where, again, with a second-year head coach, I certainly wasn't going to give him a player he didn't want. ....

"It's not something we anticipated. It kind of fell to us, and we were excited about that. I know a lot of people will look at this as not a move for the immediate, and I understand that, but the balance of the immediate and the long term is something that I have to consider, and that’s why we did it."
