Cowboys VP Stephen Jones Not Worried About Re-Signing Stars

May 18, 2023 8:47 AM

The Dallas Cowboys could face a salary cap crunch when attempting to sign Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs and eventually Micah Parsons to lucrative contract extensions, but executive vice president Stephen Jones is not fearful.

"I feel like as we move forward it will all be about timing, but we feel like we can work within the parameters of the cap and make those type of things happen," Jones said.

Diggs, who has been named to the Pro Bowl the past two years, is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

The Cowboys put the $17.99 million fifth-year tender for 2024 on Lamb, who has been named to the Pro Bowl the past two years.

Prescott is signed through 2024 as well, while the Cowboys cannot approach Parsons, a Pro Bowler in each of his first two seasons, about a long-term deal until after the 2023 season.

John Fassell: Cowboys Will Consider 'Anybody Else On Earth' For Kicker

May 15, 2023 9:33 AM

The Dallas Cowboys currently have Tristan Vizcaino as their only kicker under contract, but John Fassell isn't giving him a vote of confidence.

Fassell, special teams coach, mentioned veterans like Mason Crosby, Robbie Gould, and Ryan Succop as possible free agent acquisitions.

"We have Tristan on the roster. Anybody else on Earth who is not on the team right now, is under consideration," Fassel said. "That's everyone really. I think we have a lot of different guys that we're still looking at -- XFL, USFL, veterans on the street, younger guys who still haven't found their way."

Brett Maher closed out last season as the team's kicker, but missed five of six extra point attempts in the playoffs.

Jerry Jones On Ezekiel Elliott Return: 'Ship Has Not Sailed'

May 1, 2023 8:50 AM

The Dallas Cowboys haven't ruled out a reunion with Ezekiel Elliott.

"Ship has not sailed," Jerry Jones said when asked about the running back. "We haven't made a decision. We've obviously drafted a running back, a little different style than Zeke, but it doesn't change … For us, as far as our interest in Zeke, nothing we did today changes that."

The Cowboys have five running backs on the roster -- Tony Pollard, Malik Davis, Ronald Jones, Rico Dowdle and sixth-round pick Deuce Vaughn.

Elliott was released at the start of free agency with a post-June 1 designation, a move that saved Dallas more than $10 million.
